Custom SLR, a Kickstarter-funded venture based in the SF Bay Area, has announced their latest product, the “M-Plate” universal tripod plate. The “world’s first universal tripod plate to offer built-in Manfrotto RC2 and Arca-Swiss connections as well as attachment points for accessories” (press-release) attaches to any tripod and can be used in combination with a number of different camera strap systems, such as Custom SLR’s own C-Loop strap mount, the BlackRapid, Spider Holster, Sun Sniper, Cotton Carrier, and any other system that is mounted in the tripod socket.
The new M-Plate tripod plate is Custom SLR’s third crowdfunded project, the other two being the aforementioned C-Loop strap mount and the Split Strap and Glide Strap camera straps. The M-Plate is made from aerospace grade aluminium, which makes it lightweight and durable. Its black anodized finish gives it a sleek and seamless profile when attached to the camera’s tripod socket. An impact absorbent and textured layer between the aluminum and camera ensures a snug fit and eliminates scratching. By relocating the tripod socket, the M-Plate facilitates taking pictures with the camera in portrait orientation. In addition to its compatibility with tripod socket-mounted camera strap systems, the M-Plate features an optional hand strap attachment accessory.
Custom SLR was founded by three passionate photographers Anne, Ben, and Ivan, as a means to solve problems they encountered in their daily photographing routine. From that grew a small company that is now working on finding new solutions to improve the shooting experience for all photographers. It is also the first Kickstarter venture to have started and delivered three projects.
The M-Plate universal tripod plate is available as of now for an MSRP of US-$ 74.95 via Custom SLR’s website or from authorized dealers such as B&H Photo, who also sell Custom SLR’s camera strap systems.
