One of the reasons why Havana is such a fascinating city for travelers, history buffs, and especially photographers is its architecture. Setting foot in the Cuban capital’s Old Havana means stepping into a city still full of remnants from a bygone time. It’s a favorite of many architectural photographers to document then and now, including Colombian photographer Daniel Garay Arango, who recently shared a stunning study he did using a Sony a7R II.
Looking for some cool food photography inspiration? This is precisely what we have on spotlight for today: a fine example of an out of the box approach to the mouthwatering genre. None of those flat lays by Instagram influencers here, however — only colorful and clever ways to see food! Russian photographer Nikita Zhurnakov shot a bunch of fun commercial food for a promo campaign by company Cherkashin. While he named his collection FOOD PORN, the photos aren’t your usual snaps of drool-worthy dishes or Instagram-worthy lifestyle content. Instead, they are clever captures that encourage us to see food items and ingredients as elements that we can use to play with colors, shapes, and textures.
We’ve seen a fair number of projects that combine photography with digital art. It’s a tricky territory to tread but a good number of them are pretty interesting. Now, we add to the pile a project by German-born, London-based photographer Holger Pooten, done in collaboration with international CGI and Creative Retouching team Recom Farmhouse.
When shooting with APS-C based cameras, getting a true wide angle lens can be slightly challenging. With crop factors ranging from x1.5 to x1.6, it’s always vital to take into account that the lens you shoot with will not be quite as wide as you thought. For example, a 15mm wide angle lens on a APS-C based camera will have an effective focal length of 22.5mm-24mm depending on the crop factor of your camera. Fortunately there are some spectacular lenses out there that are still nice and wide, even with the crop factor of your sensor. The best part is that you can get some optically stunning lenses for under $700.

The cinematic aesthetic is one of today’s most popular trends in photography, odd as it sounds. CineStill is among the proponents of this look, at least in the film photography world. So it’s only fitting that the folks behind this popular emulsion came up with a documentary video series in aptly titled CineStill Frames, done in collaboration with Studio Skylight.
Commercial photographers may seem to be missing out on fun projects to some , but it couldn’t be farther from the truth. In one of her projects, Chilean art director and photographer Valentina Corral proves to us that with some imagination and playful execution, the right concept will shine for any body of work.
Though the Tokina 16-28mm f2.8 Opera lens is quite an interesting focal length choice, it should prove to be more than enough to astrophotographers, landscape photographers, architectural shooters, photowalking and general landscape photography. This is a lens designed for full frame DSLRs and is targeted at DSLR shooters that want the highest quality possible. At only $699, you’re also getting quite a bargain if we’re considering how good Tokina’s latest lineup of lenses have been in the past few years. Given the trend, we’ve got high hopes for the Tokina 16-28mm f2.8 Opera.
If you were to sit there and compile a list of cult cameras, the majority of them would be analog–but in the digital world one can consider the predecessors to the Ricoh GR III to be cult classics. Along with the Fujifilm X100 series of cameras, the Ricoh GR has been fascinating street photographers for years. Like its film predecessors, the Ricoh GR III is a compact camera designed to be low profile with a sharp lens, fairly simple controls, and designed to let the photographer really just shoot. The Ricoh GR III was announced around Photokina 2018 last year, and it was met with mixed feelings. Some wanted a full frame sensor while others clamored for weather sealing and better battery life. Mentally, I let these things slide and made justifications for why they weren’t included in the camera, but the really big one for me was removal of the little pop-up flash.
