One of the most exciting times of the month is here: BCN Ranking for cameras. The Japanese company, known for providing market share and sales data, revealed its order to sell mirrorless cameras in August. The company has examined about 40% of Japan’s digital consumer goods retail market to reveal the current results. As per the BCN Ranking for June, Sony took the largest share in the mirrorless segment, while Canon topped the DSLR section. Now, it seems that Canon is back again and making major strides in the camera sales business.
BCN Ranking See Canon At the Top
The BCN Ranking list reveals that many of the cameras bought last month are APS-C cameras, many of which are also hybrids. Perhaps this is because entry-level equipment is far more affordable for enthusiasts, and a hybrid allows one to get the best of both worlds. With many social media platforms turning to videos to sustain the user base, many creators also juggle stills and moving images for their creativity.
Without further ado, here’s a look at the list:
- Canon EOS R10 and RF 18-150mm F3.5-6.3 IS STM Lens Kit
- Canon EOS R50 Double Zoom Kit Black
- Canon EOS R50 Double Zoom Kit White
- Sony Vlogcam ZV-E10 Power Zoom Lens Kit
- Sony Vlogcam ZV-E10 II Double Zoom Lens Kit
- Olympus PEN E-P7 EZ Double Zoom Kit
- Nikon Z 30 Double Zoom Kit
- Sony Vlogcam ZV-E10 Double Zoom Lens Kit
- Sony Vlogcam ZV-E10 II Power Zoom Lens Kit Black
- Panasonic LUMIX G100D W Kit
Of the ten cameras in the list, four are highly video-centric. This could result from the country’s culture, where videos have taken precedence in their daily lives. According to a report, YouTube is considered the biggest streaming platform for Japanese consumers, and that is not only for leisure but also a great way to learn about the products they hope to buy. Considering the massive billboards at every corner of the urban landscape, it is unsurprising that video is one of the rising forms of expression and entertainment for the locals.
It Always Boils Down to Canon and Sony
As mentioned in the June report, the tug-of-war between Canon and Sony has always been evident in every BCN Ranking. While Sony’s mirrorless cameras are the most sought-after gear for beginners, many skeptics also rely on Canon DSLRs. However, those who want to try a mirrorless but wish it to be like a DSLR have opted for Canon’s R10. In our review of the device, we found the camera to be a great option for serious enthusiasts or any beginner on a budget. We also liked the smart eye detection autofocus, the 15 fps, and the good colors and sharpness.
While the EOS R10 is close to a thousand dollars, Canon chose to find an even more budget-friendly mirrorless solution with the R50. Close to $700, the reason for choosing this camera includes Dual Pixel autofocus, ease of use, customizable auto mode, and comfortable viewfinder. However, one has to trade the low-light performance for affordability. In comparison, we found the Nikon Z30 quite exciting, as it offers a small frame with great low-light performance at a pocket-friendly price. On the other hand, the Panasonic G100D misses the mark, as several elements are missing from the camera.
Overall, the list proves that Canon is still a worthy camera competitor, even if its mirrorless cameras push the boundaries like Sony or Nikon’s. However, it was surprising that Fujifilm did not make it to the BCN Ranking. Perhaps the company needs to review its strategy for beginner-friendly gear. Next month’s rankings will bring a fresh set of trends, and we do hope that Fujifilm competes with the rest.
