Canon is busy when it comes to RF mount lenses, and this means great things for EOS R cameras and other potential RF Mount platforms.
Until very recently, things had been quiet on the Canon Mirrorless camera front. But, one segment of their business has been making a ton of noise – their RF Mount lens department. Every couple of months, it seems that new patents are filed by Canon for new RF mount lenses, and almost like clockwork, a new RF mount lens patent has emerged. This time it’s for an RF 24-150mm f4 lens. Let’s talk about this after the break.
According to a recent article on Canon Watch, Canon is apparently working on an RF Mount 24-150mm f4 lens. The patent application was spotted initially by Hi Lows Note, and while we know a few key specifications about the lens such as focal length (24.70 58.34 145.80 mm), F numbers (4.12 4.12 4.12) and lens dimensions (116.35 134.13 162.90 mm), not much more is known. Will this be a new L series lens to replace the standard 24-105mm f4 lens Canon has been known for? Maybe. Could it be a cheaper, non-L series lens? Sure. We could speculate all day, but it won’t do much good; just know that this lens is in the works.

What we do know is that Canon is continuing to be one of the most innovative lens manufacturers on the planet. We have already seen gorgeous RF lenses like the 50mm f1.2, the 85mm f1.2, the new 70-200mm f2.8, the 24-70mm f2, and many more, and we know that there are even more (possibly huge) lenses in the pipeline.
We have reported on lenses like the RF mount 135mm f1.4, the RF mount 70-400mm f4.5-5.6, the insane RF 50-82mm f1.1, the RF 70-135mm f2, which would be a dream lens for portrait photographers. There have been others that we have discussed before as well, like the 18mm f1.0, a 24mm f1.2, the RF 28-135mm f4, an RF 24-170mm f4, and an RF 28-280mm f2.8.

There is no doubt that Canon is putting their best foot forward when it comes to lenses for their RF mount cameras. With the (hopefully) soon to be released Canon EOS R5, there will now be a camera that can really make the most of the fantastic lenses already available, and all of these potential stunners that could be with us in the future. What do you think about the RF mount lenses Canon has released so far, and what do you think about the patents they have filed? Are there any lenses that make you drool just thinking about them?
