The RF mount lens line up could be bolstered with a new RF 70-400mm f4.5-5.6L lens.
Canon has been doing some magical things in the world of lenses for a while. Their EF mount L series glass is still some of the best you can lay your hands on. Fortunately for photographers, they have been continuing their lens wizardry with their new RF mount lenses too, and we have already been blessed with some genuinely great Mirrorless lenses for the EOS R, RP, and Ra. Now, if recent reports are to be believed, we may be blessed with an RF 70-400mm lens later on this year. Let’s talk about this after the break.
According to a recent report on Canon Rumors, Canon may well be readying themselves to release yet another innovative lens that will no doubt please current Canon Mirrorless owners. It will also surely be one of the new RF mount lenses that will help turn the heads of those who have doubted the system thus far.

Late last year, we saw some patents for this lens, along with patents for an 18mm f1.0, a 24mm f1.2, an RF 28-135mm f4, an RF 24-170mm f4, and an RF 28-280mm f2.8. The 70-400mm f4.5-5.6 is the lens we may be seeing before any of these other lenses. These lenses will be on top of the already released, and genuinely excellent RF 70-200mm f2.8 (review coming soon), the 85mm f1.2, the 50mm f1.2, and the RF 15-35mm f2.8.
While we do not know a lot about the RF 70-400mm lens from Canon, it will apparently be roughly the same size and weight (2.3lbs) as the new RF 70-200 f2.8. If this is the case, this will be a fantastic lens to take along on wildlife and birding trips, and it would also be great for landscapes and some sports too.

While we are all still waiting for the next generation of Mirrorless cameras from Canon, nobody can deny that the current RF mount line up is very impressive. The future looks great too, and RF lenses will undoubtedly continue to be innovative. Canon is for sure banking on the lenses carrying the weight when it comes to their new Mirrorless system. And I have to say, the new glass and the potential new lenses from Canon are continuing to make the platform look very tasty indeed.
