Norwegian photographer, Ze Cardoso(aka Tomba Lobos), recently unveiled a series of unique portraits he’s been working on. Combining classic photography and sculpture, Cardoso creates a digital portrait of the subject, then sculpts play dough in unique shapes before adding it as the subject’s face in Photoshop. The resulting images are grotesque yet intriguing. Cardoso thinks of the project as a tribute to old school special effects, citing Cronenberg’s Videodrome and Chris Cunningham’s music video, Rubber Johnny, as influences.
Photographer Skander Khlif moved to Germany earlier this year, to Munich specifically, and in order to get to know his new surroundings a little better he took a free Sunday and hit the streets. The resulting series, which he titled The Silence of Munich offers an in interesting perspective on the German metropolis and its residents.
It is just a hazard of using third-party lenses in today’s camera market – there are bound to be compatibility issues from time to time, and lately Sigma and Canon have not been playing nicely. Sigma today released a memo noting some compatibility issues with Canon’s latest release, the 5D Mark IV and also noted some other general Canon compatibility issues.

At Photokina 2016, Olympus announced the new Olympus OMD EM1 Mk II; a camera that they’re trying to aim at the professional and high end enthusiast. The EM1 has been the company’s flagship line for a while now, and the last one was already very good. The new additions make it faster, more feature packed with new things like an improved image stabilization system, improved viewfinder, etc. When paired with all the company’s newest lenses, it makes for a great solution that the professional photographer can use in many instances.
The Zeiss Loxia lineup of lenses are designed for the Sony full frame E mount, and the newest offering is the Zeiss Loxia 85mm f2.4. This lens is currently the company’s longest offering and is targeted at portrait photographers and video shooters. It’s also designed to try to give it as compact of a size as possible and to that end, has the relatively slow aperture for a Zeiss lens.
Ok, so the X-T2 is out, Photokina is over and the GFX line is all everyone is talking about. But if we live in reality, most of us know that we likely won’t be upgrading to the new GFX line for financial reasons, so let’s take a minute and do a quick refresher on what to expect from Fujifilm in regards to the X-Series in the immediate to near future.
Despite initial worries that shipments on some orders could be delayed a month or even more towards the beginning of September, Amazon US now has the Fujifilm X-T2 back in stock. This had been an incredibly popular camera for Fujifilm, at one point (possibly still, I have not checked) ranking higher on Amazon’s popularity rankings than Canon’s new 5D Mark IV.
Softboxes are a staple light modifier for many photographers, both in the studio and on location. The Phottix Solas Series of softboxes are developed with new materials that are both lightweight and durable.
If you’ve known anything about Venus Optics and what they’ve been doing for the past couple of years, you’ll know that they entered the manual focusing lens world and that they’re promising a zero-distortion 15mm f2 lens to be delivered soon for the Sony full frame E mount. At Photokina 2016, we got a chance to meet with the company to give the lens a bit of a try on the original Sony a7. So far, it seems like they’re holding themselves very closely to their claims.
