If you were to ask me about what my favorite lenses are for the Sony full frame E mount camera system, the Sony 85mm f1.8 FE would surely be up there in the top 5. It’s compact, sharp, can focus quickly (emphasis on can), touts moisture and dust resistance, and overall delivers some of the most pleasing images I’ve gotten in a while. You see, I really LOVE 85mm lenses. They let me work closer to a subject while also being fairly intimate with them in a portrait setting. But then you consider just how great the image quality is with this lens, the fast aperture, and the small size and you’ve got yourself something really quite magical.
There was a period of time in the evolution of photography from film to digital where it was inevitable that perhaps every single film emulsion would disappear: but the one that stood out as impossible to disappear in everyone’s mind arguably was Kodak Tri-X 400. For years, this film has been on the front lines …
There is no denying that Sony is really hitting their stride right now in the mirrorless market, with their A7 series (still?!) the only full frame player in that market and the A6xxx series still one of the better options in the cropped markets. So naturally, many of you are looking into picking up a Sony kit, either to try out or maybe as a full on switch. Which makes deals like the new Sony rebates that are live today even better…
It’s easy for those of us with interchangeable lens cameras to look at fixed lens cameras with a bit of a scoff as we think to ourselves about how limiting and basic they are. It is true, for a long time fixed lens cameras were very much a staple of the consumer, and therefor less advanced, segment of the camera market. But for a while now there have been some great fixed lens offerings from several manufacturers which offer some incredible performance in a small, and portable package.

Since the company’s last SLR camera, Nikon is choosing to go a different route with things in their brand new Nikon F3 SLR camera. The company is trying to change things up just a bit now with one of the most controversial features being the ability to completely change out the viewfinder type. What that also means is that the user will be able to change the focusing screen to something a bit more matte in order to aid with focusing when using the company’s older lineup of lenses.
Hey folks, We’re finally done picking the winner of our Landscape photography contest with Lomography. This was a pretty tough decision. Fujifilm, when you really think about it, is one of the photo companies that has weathered one hell of a storm. Along with the likes of Canon, Olympus, Leica and Nikon, they’re still a company that is an independent camera manufacturers and wasn’t owned by a larger entity of any sort in their evolution. In terms of the photo world they went from being a major producer of film, to then transitioning into digital (sort of well) and then very well into mirrorless digital. But at the same time, one probably can make a big argument that they’re the largest of the big photo companies considering Instax sales.
