We have already posted about the news that Legendary camera maker Yashica would be returning to the photography market, though at the time exactly how that would look was not all that clear. Well, in their latest teaser video the company cleared it up… kind of.In the video Yashica posted called Prologue the company was back to the same tricks they have been playing in their previous videos, featuring a young Asian woman in various scenarios with a camera (which appears to be an old 35mm film Yashica). But the real information here comes in the first seconds of the video, where it says in text ‘Expect The Unexpected. The Unprecedented Camera by Yashica’.
This text seems to clear up all the previous mystery and spell it out right now: Yashica is coming out with a camera. But is that what it’s really saying? As many have pointed out since our previous post, it seems the company could be getting ready to launch some sort of phone case and accessory lens lineup. While it would be a stretch to call that a camera (since as we all know the camera is in the phone), it would be an ‘unprecedented’ camera from Yashica, and it wouldn’t be the first time that a marketing/pr team stretched the truth a little on a release to build hype.
It looks like we won’t have to wait long to find out what this camera (if it is, in fact, a camera) will be – or at least what their plans for it will be. According, to the description text on the video, this upcoming product will be hitting Kickstarter in October 2017.
We, and many of you no doubt will be really disappointed if this does turn out to be a bunch of hype over a phone case and accessory lenses (unless there is something special about them we just aren’t aware of yet). So, let’s all collectively cross our fingers for a legit Yashica camera comeback hitting Kickstarter at some point next month.
Until then, keep an eye on Mirrorless Rumors for updates if there are any, and we will do our best to keep up with this as well. Alternatively you can also check out Yashica’s website for updates as well as sign up for email alerts.
