Nikon cameras, especially their DSLRs, have proved what the company is capable of. From launches such as the D500 to more professional models such as the D6, Nikon has offered rugged devices that can withstand any weather. However, unlike other cameras, this full frame DSLR is about to get more expensive. What are we talking about? The Nikon D850.
Introduced in 2017, the camera is a full frame model featuring Nikon’s first BSI full-frame sensor. This allowed one to go below ISO 100 to reach ISO 64. It also featured a Multi-CAM 20K 153-point autofocus system and scene detection, which gave the camera a quick focus. One could also shoot images in complete silence.

So, why will the camera get expensive? Well, there are various reasons for it. For starters, the price climb began with two different factors playing out together: tariffs and nostalgia. Tariffs affected all cameras, with the Nikon D850 now costing around $2,300 for a new model. Similarly, the used body can range anywhere between $1,000 to $1,400 — but you can also sometimes find it cheaper.

Now, around the time tariffs were announced, we also saw a shift in perspective. Vintage cameras gained popularity because they offered a distinct look. This was largely a result of the influencer market, which, for instance, helped to blow up the Fujifilm X100VI. Many are also opting for it because they are tired of mirrorless and want to embrace older models. For some, this need is due to the rising prices of mirrorless cameras. One Reddit post on r/Nikon called it the best DSLR of all time.

Some of the things the device is really good at include a fantastic image quality, a stunning build, and a touchscreen that navigates easily. There is also great color depth, versatility of RAW files, and the best viewfinder we have ever used. However, because the camera was introduced at a time when mirrorless was taking over, it was lost somewhere in the new wave of things.
As a result, today, the D850 seems to be making a long-awaited comeback, and rightly so. As we once said in our review, “Image quality from the Nikon D850 across the board is absolutely solid. DXOMark confirms this, and the Nikon D850 has a sensor with results that are very forgiving, providing that you know what you’re doing.”
So, if you are still wondering which camera to pick, have a look at the Nikon D850, and you will certainly thank us.
