Dynamic range has been very important for many photographers, including young ones. While there are many who would prefer full frame cameras for the same, there are some who are not too keen on using a full frame or can’t afford a new one — even though the used market is rife with them. So, for those, we are looking at an option in the APS-C range, we have the right one for you: Fujifilm XH2. Here’s why it is the best.
Fujifilm XH2 is an exceptional camera for a lot of reasons. When we wrote the review, it was the highest-resolution APS-C camera on the market, thanks to the 40MP X Trans 5 sensor. It also came with a lot of nice goodies and benefits. There is in-built image stabilization and Pixel-shift multi-shot, which makes 160MP photos. There is also 1/180,000 electronic shutter, for shooting fast paced subjects in bright light.

In our review, we found the camera to be weather-resistant, and we found it to be like a smaller version of the GFX camera. It also has a giant LCD screen, a mode dial, and buttons for dedicated controls, amongst others. The menu is a bit complex, but you get camera-to-cloud connection, which is great for many.
Speaking about its performance, the autofocus is very fast for what it is, and it is great even with a strongly backlit subject. The camera can detect faces and get the subject quickly. However, if you are shooting birds in trees, you will have to set the camera to high ISO, exposure preview, and then use exposure compensation to see the subject. We generally found this to be the best workaround.
Unlike the autofocus, the image quality is what you are paying for. “Thankfully, the skin smoothing effect is present and it can save people’s poor pores,” as we in our review. So, if you are someone who photographs people, this one is definitely for you.

The Fujifilm XH2 is a great option for RAW files, which offer you extra depth. “On top of that, applying the film simulations in Capture One makes the photos look like vivid dreams,” we said in our review. “For sure, this camera delivers Fujifilm’s best color that I’ve seen in years from the X series.” The results will remind you of medium-format cameras. However, the JPEG output is just as good, too.
Like the lovely colors, the APS-C camera offers more details at ISO 6400, but the XT4 offers cleaner output. The high ISO image quality is good, as long as you are not editing the files a lot.
Overall, the camera offers ample resolution, pleasing colors, dynamic range, and high ISO capabilities, making it an ideal option for many users. As we added later, “This is a very hard question to answer. I think that if you’re a Fujifilm photographer and need more serious output, then you’ll get the XH2. It’s very capable, and can deliver beautiful photos; arguably the best of the X series system.”
