Why the Canon R5 Firmware Is Amazing So Far

Long-time Canon users have probably noticed a shift in the brand strategy as of late, especially when it comes to Canon firmware updates. Dear old Canon has sometimes left a bitter taste in peoples’ mouths with repeated launches of products aimed at a specific market segment while ensuring it will never compete or cannibalize another segment. It was challenging to get a perfect all-arounder as most popular features tended to come at the expense of others. They wanted you to get multiple pieces of equipment instead of just one. But the Canon R5 Firmware updates are showing us something different.

The Canon EOS R5 Is Even Better with Vehicle Tracking

The Canon EOS R5 remains at the top of the list for being one of the most versatile bodies on the market. It does for mirrorless what the initial Canon 5DII did for DSLR. It’s excellent for everything. The R5 has some of the best autofocus performance and tracking available at this price point. Editor-in-chief Chris Gampat gave it our Editor’s Choice Award.

Will The New Canon 35mm F1.2 Lens Be Innovative?

Lightweight and compact are two words that are seldom used to describe Canon L lenses. And as much as we wish, users have been anxiously awaiting the manufacturer to fulfill its hefty RF lens roadmap. Canon is reported to finally announce the long-awaited RF 35mm f1.2 L lens by the end of this year. While we are pretty sure you can expect to pay a premium, we can’t help but wonder if Canon will opt to innovate and break the mold. Or will they stick with the tried and true blueprint where photographers should bank on weightlifting before wedding season?

Khadejeh Nikouyeh Gradually Fell in Love with Sports Photojournalism

“I had no excuse and I wanted to make her proud,” says North Carolina photojournalist Khadejeh Nikouyeh. Referencing the touching moment she remembered her late mother and registered for a college photojournalism program, she remembers the sacrifices her parents made for her. The fine art photography program she signed up for five years ago didn’t fit well with her. A handful of jobs filled her life until she decided to get back to college to honor her mother’s desire. That was probably the best decision she had made in her life. An opportunity to shoot a professional high school football game gave her a first taste of sporting action from the sidelines. But it’s the emotion and drama off the field that she loves photographing the most.

Tiina Törmänen Found a Magical, Secret Lake in Finland

“I found this small lake in my first year of diving,” photographer Tiina Törmänen tells me of this remote and secret place in Finland. “The pink algae was just so weird, and I had never seen anything like it before. That first time, it even felt a bit scary. Visibility was maybe seven to ten meters, so I couldn’t see what was in front of me.” As she swam, long ribbons of rose-colored algae appeared out of nowhere, like the arms of a ghost. As she moved, they broke apart as easily as swirls of dust.

Adam Jones Captured a Unique Photo of This Divebombing Barn Swallow

“Be open the awe and wonder of the natural world you live in, and you will never run out of subjects to photograph,” says photographer Adam Jones. Residing in Kentucky and shooting professionally for over four decades, Adam has encountered many wildlife subjects and scenarios during his career. However, even he couldn’t have expected the kind of hostility he met while trying to snap a barn swallow on his porch.

Is the Canon RF 70-135mm F2 L Lens Still Coming? We Hope So!

We’re streaming daily on Apple PodcastsGoogle PodcastsStitcherPocket Casts, and Spotify! You can also listen to it right here on The Phoblographer.

Last year, we reported on the possibility of the Canon RF 70-135mm f2 L lens hitting the market. When we discussed it there was a lot of excitement. Canon has arguably been the innovation leader of lenses. And the Canon RF 70-135mm f2 L would sit alongside the Canon RF 28-70mm f2 L lens. Constant aperture f2 lenses are hard to come by, especially ones that are actually useful. The 28-70mm f2 launched with the Canon EOS R. And I didn’t think it was real at the time. But then I saw, used, and felt it. That’s why I think Canon may truly come out with the Canon RF 70-135mm f2 L.

The Canon R5, R6 May Ship in Sept, August, But Will the Prices be Right?

The Canon R5 and the R6 are the most anticipated cameras of 2020, but Canon needs to get this right, or the RF mount may have to head back to the drawing board.

Canon has the photography world’s attention right now. All eyes have been on the BIG C since they first announced the Canon R5 and the Canon R6, and for a good reason. A quick look at the reported specs will make any photography and videographer weak at the knees, but until today, firm shipping timelines have been hard to come by, and there is still no word on pricing. It’s the latter part of that last sentence that has us slightly worried. Canon need’s to be really careful when it comes to pricing their new cameras, or they may find that their RF mount simply won’t gain traction. After the break, we will take a quick look at everything that may be happening in September and August, and we will discuss possible pricing strategies.

Canon Can Still Screw up the Canon EOS R5, If It’s Real. Here’s How!

We’re hoping that’s not going to be the case because the Canon EOS R5 sounds amazing, but, this is Canon we’re talking about here.

Do you hear that? That loud noise is the racket being made around the web about the potential Canon EOS R5 (basically a Mirrorless 5D series camera), and while the specs that have been bandied about sound fantastic, let’s stay grounded and remember this is Canon we’re talking about. If the specs are accurate, hallelujah: it will be one phenomenal camera. But, as I have said before, Canon seems to go all in, but then they hold back by 1% and self-sabotage. Let’s talk about this and the potential Canon EOS R5 after the break.
