Reports are circulating around the web that Canon might be coming out with something that we’ve all wanted for a very long time: the long awaited real successor to the Canon G1x Mk III. Yes folks, the Canon G1x Mk IV could be coming as soon as this year. We don’t have any sort of confirmation yet, but we’re very excited for something different from the world’s top camera manufacturer. So in our best-case scenario, here’s what we’d want from a camera like this.
Table of Contents
Weather Sealing
The Canon G1x Mk III has weather sealing — which is actually weather resistance. Truth be told, if you seal the camera up, then the autofocus motors won’t be able to do their thing. There needs to be air in there for the elements to move. So what’d we love is for Canon to bring that to the Canon G1x Mk IV as well.
There’s good reason for this too. Photographers are bound to make this camera a lifestlye option that they bring with them everywhere. To that end, it will need to be able to resist anything that the world throws at it. While companies like Ricoh and Sony don’t really put weather sealing in their smaller point and shoot cameras, Canon has. And for reasons like this, their Canon G1x Mk III still works like a charm. To that end, I’d pay a pretty penny for a higher-end Canon point and shoot that does nearly everything I need it to.
A Return to Rangefinder-Style Bodies

The Canon G1x Mk IV is one that I’d love to see return to the rangefinder-style of camera bodies. I’ve got zero interest in SLR-style bodies the way that the G1x Mk III has. Granted, the Mk III is still one of my favorite point and shoot cameras. However, I’m so stick of every camera being an SLR-style option and brands like Canon telling me that that’s what researching is pointing at.
If that was the case, then why is the digicam body style so hype?
The Canon R5 II’s Sensor

Let’s be honest here, the R5 II’s sensor is basically the same as the previous camera model. So why not just recycle that sensor into a point and shoot like the Canon G1x Mk IV?
This camera should be for photographers first and foremost — which means that we need resolution more than anything else.
Stop the Focus on Video
For once, Canon, stop focusing on creators. Focus on photographers first and foremost. No one is going to buy this camera to livestream when they’ve already got a very good one and their phones do such an incredible job.
An EVF for the Canon G1x Mk IV? Maybe
Truly, I don’t care if the Canon G1x Mk IV has an EVF or not. I don’t always need to have one and have no issues looking at the screen to make really lovely images. But if there is a viewfinder of. some sort, why not make it an optical eyepiece instead the way that the Fujifilm X half does?
