We often refer to 50mm lens on a full frame as a “standard” lens because 50mm is fairly close to the perspective of the human eye. Using a 50mm lens on a camera with an APS-C sized sensor changes that perspective by about 1.5x making your effective focal length closer to what you get with a 75mm lens on a full frame body. Now, that’s not a bad thing at all and if you love shooting portraits it’s a very good thing! A 50mm lens on a camera with an APS-C sized sensor is a killer portrait lens. Also, because longer focal lengths compress perspective you’ll get more of a three-dimensional look when making full body portraits if you shoot at your brightest aperture.
My primary photographic goal is to capture strong visual elements, such as mystery, feelings, harmony, and simplicity. This unique art also exists as an artistic expression of myself, a great field of continuous self-discovery, a path for personal creative fulfillment through the ever-changing vision of this world
When the Blackforest Bags K2 Leather Edition came in for review, the first thing I thought about is just how much it looks like a man purse. I’ve reviewed tons of stylish camera bags before, but more than anything else that I’ve used, the Blackforest Bags K2 Leather Edition seems best meant to accompany your super high end camera–yet the Blackforest Bags K2 Leather Edition isn’t available at a super high end price. This version is the all leather option, but there are offerings with canvas if you please. It’s not going to hold a laptop or most computing devices, but it will be more than enough for most things that you’ll need to have with you while out shooting.
It’s been three years since the Holga Digital was released and fully funded on Kickstarter and Indiegogo, but not without some hiccups along the way. For those who are still curious about the camera at the very least, there’s a limited Hong Kong skyline edition that has been made available on the Indiegogo Marketplace.
Newsflash: Nikon designs its own sensors. If you’re just hearing about this for the first time, don’t worry; you’re most likely just one of many. Canon Watch was another (so you’re in good company), leading to a blog post sharing some details about how Nikon exactly is involved in the making of its sensors.
We could be close to hearing about the release of the Fujifilm X-T3, even ahead of this year’s Photokina, so we might as well countdown to it — one rumor at a time. The recent we’ve learned from Fuji Rumors says that the X-T3 will most likely come with some new film simulations.
As it aims squarely at the market that DNP has worked on for many years, the Primera Impressa IP60 is promising to do, well, pretty much exactly what DNP has been doing for many years now. Go to a trade show, an event, a wedding or a party that has the opportunity to print photos and what you’ll see and get are something like what the Primera Impressa IP60 is going for. Ever get your prints done at Walgreens or Costco with that extra slick and shiny print quality that could withstand a spill of your friends’ questionable choice of Bud Light? Well, then that’s print quality one typically gets with something akin to this.
The Elinchrom ELB1200 monolight is today receiving an upgrade that’s going to make it much more versatile. Photographers will have the opportunity to drop their hard earned $699 on the Elinchrom ELB1200 docking station. This station replaces the battery unit and lets the photographer connect to outlets if they wish so that they can use their ELB1200 in a studio without wasting battery power. When they’re ready to shoot on location, they can just switch off to the battery pack.
It was a little while back that I started seeing leather, wood and old school aluminum incorporated into photo gear with Cokin’s offerings; but the new MeFOTO Roadtrip Leather Edition takes that and adds even more practicality to the design. We’ve previously reviewed the MeFOTO Roadtrip tripod and thoroughly enjoyed it; and with the new MeFOTO Roadtrip Leather Edition tripod, there is even more to love. The design seems updated to provide even more versatility. Does it completely change the game? Not really; but it surely adds more flavor to the world of tripods–and monopods!
Blurb has been one of the top self-publishing platforms for magazines and books, and with its new offering, it may become even more popular. If you make your own zines or plan to make one sometime in the future, you may want to check out the platform’s new Economy paper upgrade.
