Cities bathed in neon glow is certainly one of our favorite approaches to street photography and the neon trend itself, and we’re sure we share this with a lot of our readers. Today, we’re adding one more beautiful set to the batch: Johannesburg-based Elsa Bleda’s …
It’s common knowledge that at night you should have a tripod and cable release at a minimum, but there’s one tool that’s considered a secret weapon among successful night photographers and that’s an intensifier filter. An intensifier filter (AKA red intensifier, light pollution killer and the technical name “didymium”) is a tool every photographer needs to have in their kit. Basically, the intensifier works by targeting the light emitted by common street laps and dramatically reduces the muddy yellow glow as the light passes through the filter. What you end up with is a clean RAW file with rich color, and increased contrast and sharpness.
Late last week Nikon announced their long awaited new Mirrorless camera bodies, the Z6 and the Z7. The new Nikon Z6 and Z7 both look great, and they sound like they will pack a punch, however the native Z mount lens options for early adopters will be slim. Fortunately Nikon announced the F to Z mount adapter which will enable you to adapt their current lens collection. There is no doubt that Nikon currently have some great, small primes that will pair with the smaller footprints of the Z6 and the Z7 really well, so here is a look at the best small Nikon prime lenses to adapt for the Z6 and Z7.
Zeiss recently released a teaser image on their official Chinese Weixin page, and while details are scarce at the moment, we have a feeling that they are hinting at a yet to be announced Zeiss Full Frame Camera.

When we photograph people, the goal is often to depict them at their best in their most flattering angles and most graceful expressions. Only in street photography and documentary projects do we often aim to capture our subjects as candidly or straightforwardly as possible. But for Russian photographer Dmitri Pryahin, capturing the rawness of someone’s innermost thoughts and expressions is an even more fascinating way to photograph people. This perspective has lead to the most unusual results and unsettling visual narratives — marked by the grotesque expressions and movements — that we’ll find in his collection.
Knowing the back roads, the old towns and the highly populated areas like the back of your hand all contributes to potentially obtaining the maximum artistic quality in your images. Of course it takes time to develop such awareness, something that can only come from an insane amount of walk time. In light of your hard work you may become somewhat of a human encyclopedia, filled with the all the answers to any questions one may have about the street you practice your craft in. But even then, after years of collecting such information, do you really know those beautiful streets as well as you say you do?
A century after the end of World War I, Paris-based Argentinian photojournalist Hugo Passarello Luna was intrigued by a thought: How exactly does everyone remember the global conflict? To attempt to answer this question, he embarked on a project called Nostalgie de la Boue (Nostalgia for Mud) which explores how the French reenactors safeguard its memory.
Before anyone thinks that all I’m trying to do is be a Sony Champion or just sling some mud, please hear me out and know that I don’t think that Nikon’s decision could be all that awful of an idea. Really? You say! Yes; although Sony themselves eventually gave up on the Memory Stick Duo format that was pretty awful, the better part of me likes to think that Nikon and consumers who actually purchase the cameras are going to approach this situation in a much different way.
