“I was only a visitor to their “safe” space and they were eager to go back to “dreaming” as well.” Carmen Yahchouchy has an inquisitive mind. A tremendously intelligent photographer, she communicates her view of the world through powerful visual storytelling, as we see in her series, Vulnerable Visits. On a much deeper level, the place in which we rest can be something sacred and Yahchouchy recognizes that. She took something as simple as men sleeping and turned it into an exploration of anxiety, dreams, and vulnerability. The work is simple in its execution, but complex in its meaning – naturally we found this intriguing.
With film photography still having a place in our creative arsenal and interests, we’re always curious about how our fellow film photographers are going against the grain and making the most out of the unique medium. So when (currently) Los Angeles-based fashion photographer and casting director Nick Sabatalo got in touch with us to share the latest in his film photography forays, we were curious. Five years after he first picked up a film camera, he’s now venturing into a major component of the medium that most of today’s film photographers are skipping: making fine art prints out of their images. In our chat with Nick, we asked him to tell us more about his insights on print (specifically darkroom printing), the plans for his all-film photography magazine, and what their roles they are meant to fill in the realm of fine art photography.
The iPad Pro can be found in photography studios, and photographers tool kits around the globe and they’re used for good reason. While I don’t always agree with what Apple does, it is hard to deny the fact that the company has the best tablet ever made as part of their portfolio. The iPad Pro took the device to new heights, and its capabilities were quickly loved by those in creative fields. Here we take a quick look at why the iPad Pro can become a photographer’s best friend, and what we would love to see in new models going forward.
Fujifilm has been working wonders in the niche world of Medium Format cameras, so much so that Sony recently announced a camera (the a7r IV) that will offer “Medium Format Quality” even though it’s a Full Frame camera. It’s evident that other manufacturers are impressed but also worried about Fujifilm’s ability to produce affordable Medium Format cameras. Fujifilm’s dream is to one-up the Full Frame crowd. One thing they lack though is excellent third party support. Thankfully this is starting to change thanks to companies like Laowa, who just announced their first lens for the GFX line. Join us after the break to see more details about the lens, and to see why we think third party lenses could really take Fujifilm’s offerings over the edge.

Before photography became one of the primary tools for creative expression and documentary work, there were traditional art and printing techniques. Japan was a cradle of some of the most fascinating of these, including a nature printing method called Gyotaku. It’s safe to say that it inspired Yokosuka-based Yusuke Nishibe to use photography to pay tribute to the unique craft with his own digital version.
