For several years, the Phoblographer hasn’t worked with B&H Photo because we’ve had massive ethical issues with them. And at the same time, we’ve also had massive ethical issues with Amazon. However, Amazon doesn’t lie to us and often ends up being better for our business as an affiliate partner. Before I go on, know that affiliate partners are partner retailers that give you a kickback commission when you ensure that something gets sold. But honestly, it’s pathetic. We could sell $26,000 worth of product for Amazon and still not even get $1,000. B&H was even worse than that. Please read that sentence again and really internalize it. This is why we need your help.
In 2026, I want to remove the Phoblographer of all possible unethical companies. Lots of folks have problems with Amazon and I’ve even shopped far less with them. I personally choose to shop at Adorama or on eBay. But none of these brands are perfect — instead they’re all just variations of a capitalistic problem.
So here’s what we’re asking of you folks.
Please, please, purchase our $25 membership, which you can do at this link. If the Phoblographer got 20,000 subscribers at $25, then we’d bring in around $500,000. That’s more than we’ve honestly ever made in a year. Yes, we operate on a super small budget and we’re a very small business. But we’d work to eliminate working with big greedy companies, and it would help us be more independent.
That, in turn, would help us to keep producing the work that we do without interference from the outside.
$25/year gets you the site banner-ad free. It’s really affordable. And if you’re looking for good photography and camera news, we’re the place to get analysis and all that.
Heck, I may even consider bringing back the art coverage too.
