Travel photography is a genre that requires one to rely on a camera that is small, pocketable, and fun to use. While you get multiple mirrorless models that are small, they often carry the challenge of using different lenses for different scenes. In this regard, a compact camera becomes a safe space for those who need one device and one device alone. Here is a look at the options that can provide that.
Canon G1X Mk II

The Canon G1X MK II is an ideal travel compact camera for various reasons. It offers a 24-120mm zoom lens, a 12MP sensor, and full HD videos, amongst other things. The LCD articulates, the build quality is nice and the images are vivid and saturated. As we added, “Coupled with the fact that the attached lens is super sharp and can give you lots of nice bokeh in the right situations, it seems like this is a no brainer.” With high ISOs, the results are also pretty good.
Panasonic ZS99

Panasonic’s most affordable offering, the ZS99 features a 20MP sensor, along with a 24-720mm lens. The latter makes the camera viable for those who need a step up from their phones. In addition, you get a good flash and a mechanical leaf shutter. The images are also fun to use as they can offer nice nostalgic results. The scene mode makes life easy. You get some bokeh and high ISO results are great until 400. Overall, this camera is there to have fun on your journey, especially with real-time LUTs to get distinct results.
Fujifilm X Half

Fujifilm X Half is an innovative camera housing a vertical 1-inch sensor that allows you to make diptychs. The device also offers multiple filters and film simulations, a retro design, and a 32mm lens. The multiple exposure mode is another reason why people opt for it. As for the images, you get some fantastic results with ease. As we said in our review, “The X half does a good job of making the images look like the film was kept in your desk and not in the fridge.” The battery life is amazing and the user experience is designed for photographers than casual users.
Fujifilm X30

The Fujifilm X30 is another compact camera that is popular amongst many. You get a 12MP CMOS II sensor, a 28-112mm lens, and a 3-inch 920k-dot LCD, despite the small size. The autofocus is quick and accurate and the images are quite detailed. The ISO can go up to 3200 and the RAW files are pretty versatile. The device also offers punchy colors and a good dynamic range for most scenarios.
Ricoh GR IV

Ricoh has some wonderful cameras and the GRIV is one such addition. The device offers a 26MP sensor, along with a 28mm lens and a lightweight build. However, it lacks weather sealing to keep the weight low. The image stabilization and the high ISO make up for the lack of weather sealing. The camera is also inconspicuous and with the film simulation, you get some exceptional, film-like results. If you are a young photographer who wants something different, then this camera is worth it.
