Camera Fans Are One of the Worst Parts of Photography

I’m a user of various camera systems. If you’re on the Phoblographer’s reviews team, then you’re bound to be a brand agnostic. You can use pretty much any camera and camera system that’s thrown at you. And over the years, I’ve seen cults of camera fans become a very ugly part of photography. For anyone that’s shot for years, this isn’t anything new. But the culture around camera fans and loyalties are awful, divisive things that get in the way of making better pictures and having a more sustainable photo industry.

The Best Backpack for Photographers? Tenba DNA 16 Backpack Review

Tenba pretty quietly announced the refresh to their DNA backpack last year. We reviewed most of their new messenger bags, which are arguably more popular. But among those satchels, there’s a pretty big, hidden secret: the Tenba DNA 16 backpack! Tenba’s previous DNA backpack was one of my favorites. What’s more, it also often served as my everyday bag. Looking at both camera bags, you’d never guess they’re from the same product line. But through and through, this could be the best backpack for photographers, or at least one of my top three.

Small Yet Sturdy: OM System 40-150mm F4 Pro Review

One of the biggest perks of the Micro Four Thirds system is larger zooms in smaller packages. Now, Olympus has re-branded. One of the first moves for OM System, along with a new OM1 flagship mirrorless, is to create the smallest fixed aperture telephoto yet: the OM System 40-150mm f4 Pro. Now, there’s the usual slew of fine print conditions attached to any claim of world domination. OM System says that it’s the smallest 300mm equivalent with a fixed aperture. And of course, the Micro Four Thirds format with the 2x crop factor and the narrower f4 is helping out here immensely. But, the OM System 40-150mm f4 Pro is still pretty small.

Hope for a New Pen F? OM System 20mm f1.4 Review

Over what seemed to be an AOL 9.0 internet connection, the folks at OM Digital solutions briefed the press on the new OM-System 20mm f1.4. Typically, I’m respectful and sit through the entire thing. But I knew that as soon as I saw the lens that I didn’t need to sit, though. My eyes brightened. The nostalgia of the early mirrorless camera era coursed through me. Could it really be? Is the new OM Digital solutions company really going to find a way to diversify its portfolio again? Rendering the visual equivalent of a 40mm f2.8 on a Micro Four Thirds sensor, the OM System 20mm f1.4 is a fantastic lens. And quite honestly, it’s probably one of my favorite lenses to be released this year.

The OM SYSTEM is Basically Olympus with a New Name

If a company remains the same but has a brand new name, is it really a new company? That’s the question I’m pondering as OM SYSTEM is announced today. As we’re all aware, the photo industry as a whole has been suffering in the past decade. With that, Olympus sold off the imaging division — which included audio products and binoculars along with cameras. The new company’s name will still be OM Digital Solutions. And today, they’re announcing a new brand called the OM SYSTEM. Hopefully, things are going to change.
