Olympus, aka OM System, has been at the forefront of Four Thirds and Micro Four Thirds cameras. The company has introduced some exceptional models, with some becoming cult classics in the past decade. Today, we take a peak at the cameras launched in the last five years, which have become instant favorites. Have a look.
Olympus EP-7

Olympus has introduced beautiful cameras, and the EP7 is perhaps the prettiest. The model was announced in 2021, with a 20MP Four Thirds sensor, art filters, a 5-axis image stabilization, and a 3-inch tilting LCD. The rangefinder-style body is pleasing, has a nice leatherette body, and the tactile experience is impressive. In fact, if you look at eBay, you will learn that a camera costs as much as $1000, which is a lot. One of the reasons is that the camera was never introduced in the United States, and the second is the ability to be as good as the Pen F. So, you should get your hands on this if you are a beginner.
OM System OM1

With an IP63 rating, the Olympus OM1 is a 20MP camera with nice ergonomics and a sturdy build. The device can withstand sand and dirt, and it also offers impressive computational photography. One can also shoot images at up to 13 seconds handheld. The autofocus works well in AF-C, can detect human faces well, and can lock onto birds pretty well, too. Even today, the OM1 stands on its own, thanks to the image quality. It is a camera that produces wonderful JPEGs, and you do not have to spend time editing them. The images also appear stylized different filters. As we explained in our review, “Through and through, the OM System OM1 is a fantastic camera. It will perfectly suit the needs of most professional photographers who don’t need super high megapixels. Better yet, it’s also great for passionate photographers who just want to have fun.”
OM System OM5 II

A 4/3 camera, the Olympus OM5 II offers 20MP resolution, 6.5-step image stabilization, and IP-rated durability. The camera feels right in your hands, it has clicky dials, and it also survived the rain. The device offers RAW but you are better off shooting JPEGs. In fact, you can use the black and white filter to get some stark images for your needs. The color variants are stylish, they are lightweight, and the retro aesthetics are fun to work with. This is an entry-level camera for photographers who want durability, and less editing.
Each of the Olympus cameras is available on the market, including eBay. You can get them on the used market, if the new models seem expensive. Moreover, with Olympus’ lens lineup, you can get a lot done.
