You can be the latest voice of the Phoblographer’s growing and very successful team.
Hey folks,
The Phoblographer next ideal candidates for our open positions will have the female perspective. One is a columnist and the other is a video producer. We’re currently accepting applications. More details are below.
Editor’s Note: We’ve made a few changes to this post.
Weekly Columnist
The Phoblographer is specifically looking for a female perspective with knowledge and opinions that can be backed up by facts about all aspects of the photography industry. From the tech world to the art world, we’d love to bring on either an American or internationally based woman to speak her mind once a week.
Requirements
– Proficient with WordPress
– Strong command of the English language; the American dialect and spelling is a plus
– Previous writing experience. This is an embrace of true blogging in its more colloquial form
– Able to demonstrate knowledge of copyright laws as they pertain to using images, etc
– Must have both industry technical knowledge and artistic photography knowledge
– One column a week. We’d ask for you a 1,000 word piece a week. This is a freelance job. No one on staff (except for me) needs to work more than 8 to 12 hours a week. Mental health is very important to us.
– Must be able to meet deadlines and have transparent communication skills. The staff has enjoyed very open communication with one another.
– Must work well with a team and be able to take guidance (sometimes constructive criticism) well
– You’ll have a trial period.
– Monetary payments done through PayPal, QuickPay, Venmo or check. The Phoblographer is well known for fair and honest compensation amongst the photography blogging world.
– We have a very serious non-compete policy.
– Your location does not matter; our current staffers are in Asia, Europe, and America.
How to Apply
Skip the resume and send an awesome cover letter to chrisgampat@thephoblographer.com citing all the best stuff you’ve done, along with three writing samples demonstrating that you can do the type of work we’re looking for. Links to your website, portfolio, and the writing samples should be included.
Be sure to make the subject line say your name and the position you’re going for. For example: Chris Gampat: News/Culture Writer Position.
After your application is received, it will be reviewed by me. Good luck to all applicants!

Video Producer
The Phoblographer is working on a completely different approach to the video world. We’re not doing tutorials or photographer interviews. Instead, you’re going to work on putting together stories.
Requirements
– Strong command of the English language; the American dialect is a plus, but not at all required. We’re looking for personality for this position but this can be heavily outweighed by a previously proven and demonstrated work ethic.
– Previous video creation and producing experience is a major plus.
– Industry connections certainly help.
– Must have tech and artistic photography knowledge. Being a self-starter and motivated is essential to this. The Phoblographer’s work atmosphere rewards initiative while keeping things relaxed.
– Two videos a month
– Must be able to meet weekly and daily deadlines. We’re flexible within reason.
– Must work well with a team and be able to take guidance (sometimes constructive criticism) well. Our Copy, Reviews, Gear and News Editor, and I are all very helpful.
– You’ll have a trial period.
– Monetary payments done through PayPal, QuickPay, Venmo, or check. The Phoblographer is well known for fair and honest compensation amongst the photography blogging world. After 9 years, I’m excited to say that we’re one of the best paying photography blogs on the web.
– We have a very serious non-compete policy.
– Strong preference for a NYC-based producer. Your location ultimately does not matter though and we have a number of ideas depending on the location; our current staffers are in Asia, Europe, and America.
