The Fujifilm X-T3 Could Be Built In China; But Do We Care?

It shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone that the Fujifilm X-T3 is coming soon, we have been hearing about it for months, even if unofficially. The discovery today by Nokishita of the registration of an X-T3 in China only confirms what we have all been expecting from Fujifilm. However, it also introduced a new ripple into this picture of the upcoming Fujifilm flagship camera. Why the Rumored Fujifilm X-T100 Is Sorely Needed

It is being said that the long-rumored Fujifilm X-T100 could be announced as soon as next week

Fujifilm has a long history of producing great cameras within their X-Series, but one segment of the market that has always been a bit of a dud for Fujifilm has been their budget-oriented cameras. The X-A series has always been very basic and cheap in comparison to the mid-level X-Series cameras like the X-T10 and [amazon_textlink asin=’B01NCVNDPO’ text=’X-T20′ template=’ProductLink’ store=’thephobl-20′ marketplace=’US’ link_id=’6f7645fb-57b1-11e8-b6ec-f7b963a3e069′]. But it seems maybe Fujifilm is finally adjusting their strategy, with reports indicating that an “X-T100” could be coming as soon as next week.

Here Is What Fujifilm Needs to Do with X-Trans IV; My Wish List

It’s about time for an X-Trans upgrade in the Fujifilm X-Series

As was widely publicized when Fujifilm launched their new X-H 1 a while back, their current X-Trans sensor technology dates back to the launch of the X-pro 2. It is a fine sensor, and the X-Processor Pro which accompanies it is solid as well. But in today’s world tech moves fast and three years is a long time. So we can probably expect the next generation of X-Trans to be coming soon. As such, I wanted to take a minute to talk about some of the things on my X-Trans IV wish list.

Canon Remains #1 and Fujifilm Posts Astounding Gains In Latest Market Reports

Unsurprisingly, Canon Has Retained Its Spot at #1 in 2017

Many were wondering if this would be the year, the year that Canon slips from the #2 spot in Full Frame and APS-C camera sales in the USA, and it has been shown that in fact, no, it would be not this year. Canon announced today the company, despite growing photographer frustration with their unwillingness to innovate and push forward in the space, they were yet again the number one seller of Full Frame and APS-C cameras in North America.

You can find the full press release about this below, but clearly it was a response – in part, at least – to that Nikon announcement a few weeks back indicating that they had the #1 spot in full frame sales over the Holiday season in 2017. Continue reading…

Fujifilm Firmware Updates Incoming, Including Major Update to X-Pro2

Some of the other big news announced by Fujifilm today beyond the new X-E3 and the lenses was the announcement of some major firmware updates coming down the pipe for the X-Series cameras as well as the GFX50S.

Among those, probably the camera getting the biggest boost to its performance and capabilities is the X-Pro2. According to Fujifilm’s announcement, the X-Pro2 will be getting 4K video as well as the improved AF algorithm included in the X-E3. This is huge for the X-Pro2, which until the time this firmware is released was the only X-Trans III based camera without 4K video capabilities despite being the most expensive camera in the system.

Wait What?! Reports Indicate Fujifilm X-E3 May Not Have D-Pad

If you have ever used a Fujifilm camera over the last several years, you will know how integral the d-pad has been to the control layout of the camera. Not only was this how you would navigate the menus, but this was also a whole array of function buttons that you could set in the menu. Which makes the revelation in some recent reports that the upcoming Fujifilm X-E3 will not have a d-pad at all.

One aspect of the X-E3 that has been reported for some time now is that it will have the AF joystick that the [amazon_textlink asin=’B01I3LNMAM’ text=’X-T2′ template=’ProductLink’ store=’thephobl-20′ marketplace=’US’ link_id=’d561c88b-8c10-11e7-ae49-c555c0be1e66′] and X-Pro2 enjoy, and more recent reports indicate that it is expected to have a touch screen as well, something the [amazon_textlink asin=’B01A8DUR74′ text=’X-Pro2′ template=’ProductLink’ store=’thephobl-20′ marketplace=’US’ link_id=’5de460e3-8c11-11e7-92d4-2d84f4fd7e8b’] lacks.

Fujifilm’s Earnings Reports Are Looking Good Bolstered By Strong GFX, X100F, And Instax Sales

Fujifilm has released their first quarter results for this year and things are looking particularly well for the company’s imaging solutions division – the one we all care about. The report showed a significant increase in sales for the imaging division, especially compared to the 4th quarter of last year. Fuji is crediting strong sales in both Europe and the US of their [amazon_textlink asin=’B06Y66DM52′ text=’Instax Square’ template=’ProductLink’ store=’thephobl-20′ marketplace=’US’ link_id=’66db71cb-82ad-11e7-ae30-0d136f672b1f’] product. Which should honestly be no surprise, Instax has long been a cash cow for the company, and so of people came out bought the new square format version – which launched during Q1 of this year. But the Instax launch was not the only photo product doing well. Continue reading…

Is Fujifilm Holding Out On X-Pro2 Owners?

One of the biggest enigmas surrounding the Fujifilm [amazon_textlink asin=’B01A8DUR74′ text=’X-Pro2′ template=’ProductLink’ store=’thephobl-20′ marketplace=’US’ link_id=’c774263a-68b0-11e7-9fa6-b53a005a413e’] is the omission of 4K video. Initially, it seemed that this was to do with not having the necessary heat sink to dissipate the heat produced, like the X-T2 was able to have, and that reasoning made a lot of sense–at least that’s what EIC Chris Gampat was told by Fujifilm’s reps. However, that sort of flew out the window when the smaller [amazon_textlink asin=’B01N10DKLK’ text=’X-T20′ template=’ProductLink’ store=’thephobl-20′ marketplace=’US’ link_id=’ce87f9bc-68b0-11e7-847a-851b519712cd’] came out and it also had 4K video, again, without the beefy heatsink the X-T2 featured.

So, the question is, could the X-Pro 2 get 4K video, even a limited 4K video recording mode, through a firmware update that essentially gave it a similar 4K mode to that of the X-T20? The sensor and processor can obviously handle it, and I don’t know if I would believe that the X-Pro2 couldn’t dissipate the heat from a line-skipping based 4K video mode as well as the smaller X-T20 could. 5 Best Cameras With WiFi For Instagrammers

As much as some of us in the industry would like to forget, many people these days are getting into photography specifically to get better at posting images to their Instagram and social media accounts. One step these people can take is by ditching their phone camera all together and upgrading to a dedicated camera kit.
