Photographer Stefan Panaitescu Has Never Used Photoshop In His Life

We’re streaming daily on Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts, Stitcher, Pocket Casts, and Spotify!

My name is Panaitescu Stefan, and I never used Photoshop in my life. And I’m not even going to give you time to recover from the shock and keep going with it. More than 90% of the pictures I’ve used on my social media, site, published articles, social media features were jpeg edits. Not until recently (September) did I ever use filters, masks, brushes in my pictures, and even though I am starting to use how to learn them, what I post on the internet are still tweaked jpegs.

Jason De Freitas Transforms New Zealand Into An Infrared Wonderland

“I wanted to have the experience of shooting Aerochrome at least once while I still had the chance,” the photographer Jason De Freitas tells me. He bought his first rolls in 2018, saving them until he found a landscape worthy of the now-famous discontinued infrared-sensitive film and its signature magentas and hot pinks. In the end, he packed his bags and traveled to New Zealand’s South Island, known for its towering peaks, lush rainforests, and secret waterfalls.

Long Exposures Made Easy: Haida 17 Stop ND 5.0 Filter Review

The Haida Red Diamond 17 Stop ND 5.0 Filter is an invaluable tool for photographers specializing in daytime long exposure photography.

Shooting long exposures in broad daylight can be very challenging, and the Haida Red Diamond 17 Stop ND 5.0 Filter was created with this in mind. Most conventional ND’s simply don’t provide enough light reduction. When photographing on a sunny day, you’re limited to exposures of a second or two at best. That’s barely enough time to blur out moving clouds or flowing water. Thanks to the whopping 17 stops of light reduction on the Haida Red Diamond Filter, significantly longer exposures become possible. For example, a 1/60 second filterless exposure would take 36 minutes and 16 seconds to complete. That’s a notable difference. We recently got to test the Haida Red Diamond 17 Stop ND 5.0 Filter out in the wild. Check out how it fared in the real world after the jump.

The work invited us to see roaring waves and dreamy seasides as if we were there ourselves, or reimagine them entirely. Stockholm-based Tobias Hägg’s approach, however, is about showcasing the unpredictable and sometimes frightening beauty of the ocean from above. The result is Our Oceans, a breathtaking abstract series illustrating beautiful hues and textures that can only be seen from a drone’s perspective.

Opinion: Instagram Could Really Use AI or Curators for Hashtags

Curated Hashtags were part of what made Tumblr awesome: Instagram could surely benefit from it.

Sometimes I wonder if photographers don’t know the difference between one genre and another, but most of the time I believe folks try to penetrate any hashtag they possibly can in an attempt to get the most traction. It’s pathetic, it’s stupid, and quite honestly it’s a slap in the face of photography. Instagram has proven time and time again that it doesn’t care. They instead serve you ads and keep you on their platform as much as possible. One of the best things they could do is create community-curated hashtags with actual editors, in the same way Tumblr did. Though the now almost-dead platform is pretty much used for porn, well, you know, it did a great job with community curated options.
