Architecture photography not only captures the beauty of our built environment but also reflects on the rapid changes happening in our surroundings. From sprawling mansions to towering skyscrapers, humanity has made significant progress and shows no signs of slowing down. With human-built environments now dominating much of the ecosystem, the Architecture MasterPrize (AMP) has taken on the task of honoring photographers through their prestigious award, the Architecture Photography MasterPrize. The winning images not only showcase the skill of the photographers but also recognize the creators who are shaping our world.

AMP is an organization that aims to celebrate sustainable and quality architectural design worldwide. As a part of its distinction, which honors architects from around the world, it also takes a moment to highlight the works of photographers, who ensure their vision is shared with utmost authenticity. Now in its 4th edition, the Architecture Photography MasterPrize awards winners in two distinct categories: Exterior Photography and Interior Photography. From here on, there are a dozen more sub-categories.

This year, German photographer Albrecht Voss won the Exterior Architecture Photographer of the Year title for his exceptional photograph of an accommodation built by architect Snorre Stinessen. What worked in his favor was that Voss was able to capture the structure, located between snowy mountains alongside the Northern Lights over Switzerland. This was the first time in 25 years the country saw the auroras.

The title of Interior Architecture Photographer of the Year went to Argentinian photographer Franco Casaccia for his images of Tomás Saraceno’s temporary exhibition, suspended above the atrium of K21 in Düsseldorf, Germany. As you can see above, the image portrays it as if people are walking on air. However, the reality is a bit different. The installation features near-transparent steel mesh, while five air-filled spheres are used to help the net. Furthermore, 13 more photographers in both categories have also been chosen in the top leagues.
In addition to the Architecture Photography MasterPrize. the organization also announced the winners of its other categories, which are pertaining to design, social impact, and product of the year.

The winning images will be published in the Architecture of the Yearbook, alongside the opportunities to get work from architects around the world.
If you look at the winners of the architecture award, you will be blown away by the structures and the craft of the photographers. For instance, the images above are captured with utmost precision; they are so perfect that they may seem like renders from a 3D model. However, as we have noted in the past, architectural photography is as much about composition as it is about light. And to manage to blend the two seamlessly is not an easy task.
To see exceptional winners every year, who push the boundaries at the Architecture Photography MasterPrize is simply a delight. As the winning photographs depict, there is no right or wrong in photography as long as you know what the rules are and you know why you’re breaking them. Everything is fair in photography and capturing the best images.
