What to Like About the FUJIFILM X-H2?
Part of what makes the cameras so incredibly special is the 40.2MP X Trans CMOS 5 HR sensor at the heart of it. This is a very unique sensor not only because it’s an X Trans sensor, but also because it’s one of the highest resolving APS-C sensors on the market. When X Trans was first launched, FUJIFILM often spoke about how the sensors could hold their own with full-frame. And when you look at the colors that this camera can output, you’ll understand why.
And with that, you’ll be able to take incredibly detailed images and get even more character out of your older Fujifilm lenses. We positively loved the way the Fujifilm 35mmf1.4 R delivered beautiful images with the camera. Most importantly, we’re very appreciative of how reliable the camera is.
Here’s a bit of what you should know from our Fujifilm XH2 review:
- Very quiet
- Fantastic image quality
- High ISO images are fairly clean, or you can embrace the noise.
- The best color from an APS-C sensor in a while
- Subject detection is great in sufficient lighting.
- Weather resistant
- Good for street photography
- Alright battery life
- Still works well with older lenses
- Cropped shooting mode in continuous drive mode is brilliant. (Let me get it right in camera and frame it perfectly there rather than fixing it later.)
- Continuous AF is great in good lighting.
- Very good at 10fps for tracking birds
As far as APS-C sensor cameras go, the FUJIFILM X-H2 stands out as one of the best if you’re looking for FUJIFILM’s quality and want to do slower work.
Who is it For?
The Fujifilm X-H2 is a camera that’s mostly designed for still photographers. That’s evident with the 40MP CMOS 5 HR sensor — which is something that portrait photographers, studio photographers, landscape photographers, and conceptual shooters will all enjoy. We’ve seen photographs from lots of photographers who upgraded to the camera and loved what it can do combined with all the film simulations it offers.
You can also think of it as a more affordable version of a medium-format camera in some ways too!
And with this sensor, you can get deeper and richer colors than you can get from previous cameras. It’s pretty incredible. Of course, it has a few video and multimedia features, too. But you’re far better off getting it if you’re mostly wanting to do photography.
More importantly, if you’re coming from another camera system and want a more DSLR-style camera body, it’s tough to beat the experience you’ll get here.
What Makes the Fujifilm XH2 So Unique?
There’s a bunch of stuff that make it really stand out besides the sensor! Fujifilm has film simulations that make pleasing your clients so much easier. And because this is an APS-C sensor, the pixel density is so incredibly packed. That means that, ultimately, you’ll end up getting much more detailed images.
It’s really hard to beat this one, especially considering that it has so many extra buttons and such to put controls right at your fingers.
