YouTuber Hayden Pedersen has created some pretty cool videos about photography tricks before. He shows that you can use regular, everyday household items to help you create striking images. In his latest video, he goes on a portrait shoot with a bunch of his mates and a model, and he gets the idea to use some cheap sparklers that he found at a party supply store. With the sparklers in hand, they set out to create some unique portrait images.
Armed with only an 85mm lens, the shoot did prove to be a little harder than Hayden would have liked, and he would have preferred to have shot with a 35mm to be able to tell more of a story. However, he was still able to capture some gorgeous images with some buttery smooth bokeh from the sparkler itself, and the city lights in the background. Gear aside, this video shows just how easy it can be to create some really unique images with items that don’t cost an arm and a leg. If you ever find yourself in a creative rut, just take a look around at things you have, or can get hold of cheaply that can produce light. You’ll be amazed at what you can create.
Check out the video to see just how easy it was to incorporate these sparklers into their shoot.
