It’s a good day for both Fujifilm GF and X Mount camera users: two new Fujifilm lenses have just been announced.
Over the last couple of years, Fujifilm has steadily built up their library of lenses for both their APS-C X mount cameras and their G Mount Medium Format cameras. Today, Fujifilm announced two new lenses that will no doubt please users of each platform. The Fujifilm FUJINON GF50mm F3.5 R LM WR is a small, lightweight lens for their Medium Format cameras. And the XF 16-80mm F4 R OIS WR will help grow the collection of lenses for Fujifilm’s X mount, APS-C cameras. Join us after the break for product images, technical specs, release dates, and pricing.
September 26th is going to be quite a day for users of these two Fujifilm camera systems as this is when both of these new Fujifilm lenses will be hitting retail shelves. Save those pennies if you want to buy either of the lenses on launch day.
The Fujifilm GF50mm F3.5 R LM WR will have an equivalent focal length of 40mm and an equivalent aperture of f2.8 when compared to Full Frame lenses. This small lens weighs just 0.73 lbs, and measures in with a diameter of 3.31 inches and a length of only 1.89 inches. For a Medium Format lens, this is incredibly small, which should make it perfect for street photography and environmental portraits.
Inside the tiny body, you will find nine elements in six groups (one of which is an aspherical element), and nine aperture blades. The Fujifilm GF50mm f3.5 R LM WR has a thread size of 62mm. The lens will come with both front and rear caps, as well as a lens hood and a lens wrap. The GF50mm f3.5 is weather-sealed in 10 places, and will continue to operate in temperatures down to 14°F (-10°C). When it hits the streets, this lens will have a retail price of $999.95, and $1,299.99 Canadian.
The Fujifilm XF16-80mm f4 R OIS WR has been designed for Fujifilm’s APS-C cameras like the X-T3, and the X-H1. The XF16-80mm F4 features 16 elements in 12 groups (includes three aspherical elements and one ED aspherical element), and has nine rounded aperture blades. On Fujifilm’s APS-C platform, the lens will have an equivalent focal range of 24-122mm.
Like the GF50mm f3.5, this lens also has 10 points of weather-sealing and can also operate in temperatures as low as 14°F (-10°C) without missing a beat. If you like using filters, you’ll need filters with a 72mm thread. The lens is fairly lightweight at 0.97 lbs, and with a diameter of 3.08 inches and a length of 3.5 inches, it should sit and balance well on X mount cameras. This lens will have a retail price of $799.95, and $1,049.95 Canadian. As mentioned above, both lenses will be hitting shelves on September 26th, 2019.
