Since Sony Has New Mirrorless Full Frame Cameras, They’ve Got New Lenses Too

No camera system is complete without a good lens system. And with today’s announcement of the A7 and A7r, the company is also sharing the news of some new lenses for Full Frame E Mount. Sony is striving to ensure that there are 15 E mount lenses total by the end of 2015; and they’re already making quite an aggressive push. Today, the company is announcing a 55mm f1.8 Zeiss lens, 35mm f2.8 Zeiss lens, 28-70mm f3.5-5.6 kit zoom, 70-200mm f4 OSS and 24-70mm f4 Zeiss lens for Sony Full Frame E Mount.

And if you were hoping that they’d be cheap, you’re wrong. The 24-70mm f4 will retail for $1,199.99, 35mm f2.8 will be $799.99, and 55mm f1.8 will be $999.99.

When Canon introduced their new Mirrorless cameras earlier on this year (The EOS R) one of the stand out features was that the lens mount was so huge. Today, for some odd reason, the Nikon P1000 point and shoot camera is being announced. Odd, you ask? The fact that it is a point and shoot isn’t such a big issue at all; but the fact that it’s a superzoom camera being marketed as one with a 125x optical zoom is what’s insane. Kudos to Nikon for being able to do something like this; but then you read the fine print (or in this case, print that’s not even in the press release) and see the bait and switch–this Nikkor lens is having its potential wasted by being placed in front of a 1/2.3 inch sensor.
