So this morning I got several email blasts from Tiffen that they have announced three new items for the film / videography world. They are announcing a 3 light kit, new video filter, and the Steadicam Pilot 2nd Unit system.
Lowel Blender 3 Light Kit
The Lowel Blender 3 Light Kit is a kit consisting of 3 LED lights, 3 Stands and a bag (chair not included). Each of these lights have two sets of LEDs, one set of tungsten and one set of daylight. Having two sets allow it to easily blend between the two color temps to get the color temperature that you desire. These lights output a total of 48 watts.
The price? Well its a bit steep and it shocked me a bit, the price for the kit is $2050. More details on the kit and accessories here.
Full Spectrum IRND + Glimmer Glass
Tiffen doesnt have any photos or samples of this new product in action but they claim that filter is a beauty enhancing filter. What does that mean? Well I learn better with pictures but from what I gather is that the filter takes care of certain color polluting from IR and far red wavelengths. The new filter is actually a three in one which would help remove glare and reflections caused by stacking.
The filter claims to do many things, few make sense and a few would require some kind of video example. These claimed features are “glass has a distinct silver sparkle”, minimizes the appearance of wrinkles and blemishes without looking “soft-focus”, no color vignetting on wide angle lenses, softens fine details while adding mild glow to highlights and provides mild contrast reduction with modest highlight flare.
The new Tiffen IRND + Glimmer Glass filters are initially available in 4 x 4, 4 x 5.65 and 6.6 x 6.6 sizes and will be available effective September 15, 2012. Read more on their site here.
The Steadicam Pilot 2nd Unit System
This kit consists of the complete PILOT or PILOT HD system, complete Merlin 2 system and the Merlin 2 Arm Pin Kit. This essentially combines two of their most popular steadicam video stabilizers. This systems is to provide flexibility for shots where a stabilized vest rig is needed or not needed. The Pilot system can hold from 2-9lbs and the Merlin can hold .5-5lbs.
