DigitalRev Shows You 25 Photo Clichés to Avoid

Photographer Selfies

Photographers, both new and veteran pros, can fall into the trap of taking the same image over and over again. While we might not notice this, DigitalRev has shot a new video highlighting 25 of the most obnoxious photo clichés. It’s a bit tongue-in-cheek starting off with annoyances like watermarked images and signing photos as if they were paintings. But most of the video highlights images we’ve all shot a bajillion times including golden hour skies, homeless people, or any mundane scene snapped with a Dutch (or German if you will) tilt.

It’s an enlightening watch that might make you realize what photo clichés you’re guilty of. That’s not to say you should hang up your camera, instead venture out of your comfort zone.

If you’ve been shooting images at home only, go out and try your hand at street photography. Do more portraits if there are none in your portfolio, or shoot a long exposure of something that’s not a waterfall or moving cars at night. There’s no lack of moments out in the world to capture.

DigitalRev Shows You How to be a Professional Photographer

julius motal digitalrev pro photographer

For anyone just breaking into photography, the idea of going pro can seem far more daunting than it actually is. What camera do you use? Do you hire an assistant or fly solo? How much technical knowledge do you really need to know? Do you shoot RAW or JPEG? What kind of a tripod do you buy, if you buy one at all? These are all questions worth considering, and DigitalRev released a video in which it answered some of them. In its ongoing How-to Look Pro series, DigitalRev’s Kai Man Wong explains how to look pro from camera choice to posture.

Bigger is better and the more splayed your legs are, the more professional you look. If you do hire an assistant, be sure to say things like, “The highlights are blown.” and “There’s severe pin-cushion distortion.” Be sure to put on a lens hood, and always, always, always wear a hat.

Alright, it’s a bit cheeky, but check out the video below. Continue reading…

Viral “First Kiss” Video Gets a Parody With Dogs

You know that video that’s been going around with strangers who met for the first time and kissed each other that turned out to be an advertising ploy? Well, it has been parodied–but this time with some far sloppier kissers. This version is called “First Sniff” and has more to do with man’s best friend. No, we’re not talking about your drinking buddies, but instead dogs.

This version of the video is far cuter and will both tug at hearts and give you a giggle. This is the third big parody to come out, and we’re positive that it will now become a trend.

Check out the pooches after the jump.
