The Canon Rebel: Over 30 Years of Shooting Great Pictures

For over 30 years, the Canon Rebel has been in the hands of photographers who wanted Canon quality at an affordable price. The snootier amongst us will happily turn their noses up in their air at these cameras. But the truth is that no one can deny they were excellent cameras for a beginner. What’s more, They sold at chart-topping numbers for many years. While Canon doesn’t have a current iteration of the Canon Rebel worth discussing, I think everyone can acknowledge this camera’s importance.

We’re streaming daily on Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts, Stitcher, Pocket Casts, and Spotify!

After a slow start to life in the Mirrorless world, Canon is now almost at full steam. Along with launches of some spectacular lenses, we have seen the brilliant Canon EOS R5 and EOS R6 hit the streets. There’s even speculation that we might see a high-resolution (90+ Megapixel) Canon body early next year. Hot on the trails of that news comes word of a potential return to the Rebel series of cameras. A new Canon EOS Rebel R that’s cheaper than the current EOS RP (it’s just $999) might just kickstart the faltering camera market. Let’s talk about this after the break.

The Canon R5, R6 May Ship in Sept, August, But Will the Prices be Right?

The Canon R5 and the R6 are the most anticipated cameras of 2020, but Canon needs to get this right, or the RF mount may have to head back to the drawing board.

Canon has the photography world’s attention right now. All eyes have been on the BIG C since they first announced the Canon R5 and the Canon R6, and for a good reason. A quick look at the reported specs will make any photography and videographer weak at the knees, but until today, firm shipping timelines have been hard to come by, and there is still no word on pricing. It’s the latter part of that last sentence that has us slightly worried. Canon need’s to be really careful when it comes to pricing their new cameras, or they may find that their RF mount simply won’t gain traction. After the break, we will take a quick look at everything that may be happening in September and August, and we will discuss possible pricing strategies.

New Market Stats Suggest Canon Needs an RF Mount Rebel Camera Now

camera deals

As Canon cameras are absent from the top 10 selling cameras in Japan for November 2019, perhaps it’s time for an RF Mount Rebel.

It seems as though things are going from bad to worse for Canon. For the first time in what seems like an eternity, the top-selling cameras in Japan for a given month do not belong to Canon. Not only is Canon’s absence in the top three unexpected, but there are also no Canon cameras in the top 10 for November 2019. Ouch. Canon’s insistence on pushing their M mount is not paying off, so maybe it’s time for an RF mount Rebel camera. Let’s talk about this.

Could a Full Frame Mirrorless Canon Rebel Be an Ace in The Hole?

camera deals

A cheap and cheerful, Full Frame Mirrorless Rebel camera from Canon really might make sense.

Everywhere you go these days it seems that Full Frame is the buzz word in the photography world. The gap between APS-C cameras and Full Frame cameras has closed significantly, but there is perhaps still an ounce of difference between the two platforms with Full Frame only just squeezing out a win. With Fujifilm and Sony dominating the APS-C markets, Canon and others may well have to move in a different direction. A recent interview with a Canon exec shed light on a rather interesting topic, and it turns out that there may be a cheaper Full Frame camera coming from Canon in the near future (yes cheaper than the EOS RP). Could this mean a Full Frame Canon Rebel is in the works instead of an APS-C offering? Lets talk about it. Continue reading…

The New Canon Rebel SL3 Is Less Expensive Than Some Point and Shoots

Also, the new Canon Rebel SL3 comes in a dope shade of white.

I’m not going to lie; the new Canon Rebel SL3 shares a whole lot in common with many of Canon’s other cameras–which ultimately means there is no real innovation. But it looks nice, and perhaps that’s what Canon is really trying to do at the $599.99, body only price point. In the spirit of making a quick buck, it boasts a whopping nine point autofocus system based on a camera from over 10 years ago. But again, it’s pretty in white.
