A zoom lens is very crucial for photographers today. It not only allows them to get the best results, but also lets them work with multiple focal ranges in one lens. In fact, since most zoom lenses can be expensive, leading one to shell out thousands of dollars. So today, we take a look at some options that will cost less than $500.
Canon RF 24-105mm F4-7.1 IS STM

The Canon 24-105mm lens is perfect for everyday use. The focal range can be utilized for street, documentary, wedding, and portrait photography put together. The autofocus is quick, and works well in all modes, and you also get a continuous tracking option as well. In low light as well, the lens will do wonders. The images are an added bonus, as they are sharp, offer soft bokeh and good colors. There is shake reduction technology, which makes life easy. As we added: “For what this lens is, though, an affordable ‘entry-level’ variable aperture standard zoom lens built for the masses, the build quality is very good. Just remember you can’t play in the bathtub with it, and you’ll be good to go.” Since a new lens can cost $450, you can always look at ebay, where you can get a sweet deal of $250 to $350.
Sony 28-70mm f3.5-5.6 OSS

Another versatile offering, Sony’s 28-70mm covers a broad focal range, making it ideal for many young photographers. The lens is small and lightweight, and offers simple controls for use. Those using old Sony cameras will be happy to know that the autofocus works perfectly even in low light. It is also silent and accurate. The images are vivid, and at 70mm, you’ll get some bokeh as well. As we explained in the review, “Yes, this is a sharp lens. In fact, it’s incredibly sharp for a kit lens–but there are far sharper options out there in the Sony lineup of FE lenses. Still though, you’d be hard pressed to really hate this lens for its sharpness overall in the spectrum of photography.”
Tamron 70-300mm F4.5-6.3 Di III RXD

The 70-300mm lens has a nice, large zoom ring, which is also rubberized texture. There is a weather sealing, and the lens works well with both Sony and Nikon offerings. The lens can be used for sports, portraits, and bird photography. The bokeh is beautiful, the colors are pretty, and you get immense sharpness. The chromatic abberration is limited, and the contrast is also good. As we added, “The sharpness lends itself to a painterly effect when combined with the right lighting and the right settings on a Sony sensor. This lens isn’t as vibrant as the brand’s higher end lenses, but that gives it more of the look of a vintage painting.”
