As a journalist, I’ve been seeing an insanely fascinating thing with Lightroom. Users have been consistently asking for fewer updates and fewer generative AI features. Today, Adobe isn’t doing that. The update to Lightroom is being described to us as “broad availability of Quick Actions and Generative Remove (that) empower fast, high-quality editing regardless of skill level.” This comes after the price raises.
The following has been taken from Adobe’s Press release:
Remove Distractions and People
- Available all across Lightroom, Classic, and Mobile
- Window reflection that’s pure magic: This new feature uses AI to detect and erase unwanted reflections from glass with awe-inspiring detail. You can even choose to keep some of the character by adjusting the strength slider.
- New one-click people detection and removal: Generative Remove can also now detect people who are not the focus of your photo for removal in a single click.
We’re going to test the new updates and update our Lightroom review, but these new Generative Remove updates we sort of hope are actually useful. There are other updates that folks might care about with Photoshop, and that’s because we know that most users of this site use Lightroom and Photoshop.
In addition to all this, there’s the new Lightroom Quick actions that help do things that enhance landcape photography and apply specific edits to specific elements.
At the moment, it’s still cheaper than Capture One if you want mobile integration. But if you only want to work on the desktop, then Capture One is a better option.
The craziest thing about this right now is that right now I’m actively talking to other people who aren’t in this industry. And every time that I talk to folks, I think about how folks don’t worry abou generative AI and even some assistive AI features coming for this jobs. This, I feel, is coming for jobs in some way or another.
Will there be a day where we’re replaced by AI? That’s something to think about. And I truly hope thzt this doesn’t dont to fruitiion at all.
