Moo’s Latest Business Cards are Made From Cotton

Lots of photographers have trusted MOO for years when it comes to business cards. And now the company just got a whole lot cooler. They just announced cotton business cards. Yes, cotton. If you’re a photographer who prints often, then this isn’t only exciting but also very familiar. You see, lots of papers these days are made with cotton because it gives you a much different quality and feel than what’s possible with paper. Some papers are a mixture of trees and cotton.

For the photographers who don’t print often, here’s the skinny:

Fine art prints and archival prints have been following a new type of trend. I’m not talking about the type of prints you get from Costco with a dye injection process, but instead an inkjet process. Cotton is typically more resistant to wear and tear over the years and ink printed on it just holds its own better without the need of needing to tamper with the ink more. Red River’s latest paper is made with cotton and it’s designed to deliver a look you’d see otherwise only in the darkroom.

Additionally, some of the newer paper made by Canon and Epson both use cotton. I’ve got a number of cotton prints in my apartment and it’s really something to experience in person. I want to say that it’s an almost delicate difference but that’s not doing the process justice at all. When you touch the paper, there’s a stark difference with the way the patterns and the threads intertwine.

Moo recently released a video talking about the inspiration and how these cards are made.
