Compact cameras are pretty important for many young photographers today. Not only do they offer a small size, but they also result in some favorable performance. If you are someone who is looking to buy one, then here are some models you might like.
Sony RX100 Mk III
Sony’s RX100 series has been designed for beginners who want to step-up from their phones. The Sony RX100 III is one such model with a 20.1MP 1-inch sensor and a zoom lens. The camera offers a pop-up flash, and it can autofocus on subjects with ease. The camera also offers good details, and the colors are vivid and accurate. The design has nice buttons, and it is sleek enough to be carried in your pocket. You can also salvage the shadows with the RAW files. As we added in our review, “Most shooters looking for this camera to just work will also love the way this camera puts out JPEGs that are all almost perfectly processed. The Zeiss lens permanently affixed to the camera is no slouch either.” It is a camera you’ll adore.
Olympus XZ-1
Olympus XZ-1 was launched in 2011, featuring a 10MP 1/1.63-inch sensor and a 28 to 112mm lens. The images from the camera are versatile, and the colors are quite fantastic. There is also better dynamic range, and a result of that is also the lens. The compact camera houses a large LCD, and the focusing system is good, even in low light. The device offers versatility, and is one of the best cameras on the market. This device is ideal for “Hobbyists that want to go out traveling and want a powerful camera that is also highly portable,” as well as “Concert goers that can’t use DSLRs.”
Canon G1X Mk II
Canon made some wonderful compact cameras and the G1X Mk II is one of them. It houses a 12.8MP 1.5-inch CMOS sensor, a long-range 24-120mm lens, and a design that is reminiscent of the DSLR. The device offers a nice LCD, the focusing system is good for bright light, and you get vivid photos. The controls are nice, and the lens is quite sharp and provides nice bokeh. “Most people traveling, shooting street photography, or even looking for a nice companion camera will enjoy the images that this camera can capture,” we added.
Leica D-Lux 6
Leica makes some of the most luxurious cameras in the world. Leica’s D-Lux 6 is a compact camera designed for everyday use. It houses a 1/1.7-inch 12MP sensor and a 24-90mm lens. D-Lux 6 offers some pretty images, and it is ideal for day shoots. The autofocus is also fast, which is good for those who like to shoot people. “The D-Lux 6 can take some very nice photos, but you need to treat like a film camera most of the time,” we added. The camera is also sleek, and quite easy to use and is lightweight.
Canon G11
Another Canon PowerShot camera on this list is the G11, a lovely point and shoot with a 1/1.7-inch 10MP CCD sensor. The images offer good quality, and the best results come with the use of flash. The colors are lovely and it is quite nostalgic. The autofocus is intelligent, and is quite accurate like the Nikon D3s. As we added, “The autofocus was tested with both moving objects (persons, rather) and still people. It worked without flaw most of the time.” With the revival of compact cameras, the model is back in fashion.
Panasonic ZS-7
Panasonic has created some wonderful cameras, and the Panasonic ZS-7 is a point and shoot camera designed for those who like a small design with a good performance. It offers a 12.1 MP 1/2.33-inch sensor, a Leica 25 to 300mm lens, and comes with a 460,000-dot LCD. It is a camera that is better suited for everyday images, as the photos work best for daylight situations. It also offers GPS coordinates as recorded in the camera’s EXIF, and it also feels good in your hands, especially the grip. Even the low-light images are quite acceptable for a camera of this nature.
