Canon announced the highly anticipated compact camera, the Canon PowerShot V1, last week, right before the CP+ Show. With a new launch specifically catering to the Asian market, one wonders what they are going to launch next. Well, we all have some thoughts about what could possibly launched in the coming weeks. So, here is a round-up of cameras and lenses that Canon may launch this year.
Canon EOS R6 Mk III
One of the highly anticipated cameras from Canon, Canon Rumors states that the device is scheduled to launch in Q2 of this year. While there are always rumors about the dates, one can hope the launch is imminent in 2024—perhaps the second half if things don’t go too well.
We have previously reported the specs rumored for the device, which include a 24MP LC1720 sensor and the same focus system as the EOS R5 Mk II. Furthermore, with the price drop in R6 Mk II and rebates, there is a good possibility that a replacement is on the horizon.
Canon RF 200-500mm f4L IS USM
This is another lens that Canon fans are waiting for. There have been many conflicting reports about its specs, which also include an f5.6 aperture to a built-in 1.4x teleconverter. Rumors state it will be lighter than the EF lens and, perhaps, may come with a more digestible price tag. However, with this one, people will have to wait and see as the reports have been quite conflicting. As a result, it will be challenging to reveal its actual launch date.
Canon RF 24-70mm f2L USM

Sony recently announced a 28-70mm f2 GM series lens to compete with Canon’s own. But a 24-70mm f2 is likely to also be seen — though we’re not exactly sure when it will happen yet. This will be a follow-up to the existing RF 28-70mm f/2L USM, which was launched in 2019. However, reports suggest that the 24mm wide-angle range will still require a lightweight lens. However, there are no details about its specs and launch date yet. Canon has been changing the RF lens with the RF 70-200mm f2.8L IS USM Z, which has a different design. And so, one can expect an upgrade like that with other older RF lenses, too.
Of anything on this list, this is the minor equivalence of the question of the universe. Why would Canon focus on this instead of making a fast wide-angle zoom besides the 16-35mm f2.8 RF? And perhaps more importantly, what about a fisheye zoom lens? That never came about — and at the same time I feel Canon missed the ball here.
Canon Autofocus Tilt-Shift Lenses

Canon has manufactured some great tilt-shift lenses, but this time, they are rumored to do the same, but they have an autofocus instead of a manual focus. There are also several patents of the same, which showcase electronically driven tilt-shift lenses. As a result, we could be waiting for software that will allow the cameras to be compatible with the upcoming features. If this is a possibility in the RF mount, a lot of people will rejoice, as tilt-shift was one of the lenses that people chose during the EF mount. We wait to see what more news comes.
Canon EOS R50 V
Is it an update to one of the best-selling APS-C cameras? We honestly don’t know. Canon Rumors suggested that a camera of this may come, but there are no specifications yet. However, the V in the name could mean this will be a video-focused device, probably for content creators. Since the tip comes from a reliable source, we may see a version sometime in the future.
Canon APS-C Lineup
In January, Canon Rumors reported the company’s APS-C line-up will see more cameras. However, it is unclear whether it will be an update to the EOS R7 series or whether it will be an entirely different camera altogether, such as the RC. Some of its rumored specs are:
- 24.1MP Stacked APS-C Sensor
- 6K RAW
- 4K up to 120-180fps (unsure)
- 1080P up to 240fps
- 30fps continuous shooting for stills
- DIGIC X + DIGIC Accelerator
- A new body
- C-Log2/C-Log3
- Fullsize HDMI Port
- About $1500 USD
Canon Retro Camera
Now that Nikon has a retro-designed camera, and it’s selling well, it is pretty evident that Canon will have its own version soon. We have reported about the desired specs, but there is a chance that it could be the AE-1. The latter will turn 50 in 2026, so having an announcement in Q4 is what the reports are hoping for. However, whether it will be an entirely digital version is debatable.
Overall, 2025 is likely to be a busy year for Canon. Reports stated that we may see 6 to 8 new lenses and 4 to 5 cameras. Considering Canon’s capacity to produce, this could be possible in the near future. We just hope that the new updates are truly ahead of the competitors.
