We’ve Updated Our Rokinon Buyers Guide with All of Our Latest Reviews

If you’re in the market for some quality primes at affordable prices, you should checkout Samyang and Rokinon lenses. 

Over the years, the staff here at The Phoblographer have reviewed almost two dozen Samyang and Rokinon lenses. We have always been impressed with the quality of the optics in their lenses, and more recently the build quality of their newest lenses. We now have an updated Rokinon and Samyang Buyers Guide available to anyone who wants quick access to all of their lenses we have reviewed over the last 10 years. In all, 22 lenses are listed in the Buyers Guide. We have updated the post with 10 new lenses we have reviewed. Some of the latest additions are the new autofocusing lenses like the Rokinon 50mm f1.4 AF and the Rokinon 85mm f1.4 AF. We have also added gems like the Rokinon 12mm f2 that offers APS-C shooters an excellent wide field of view, and the exceptional 135mm f2 – one of the sharpest manual focusing prime lenses we have used. It’s a seriously great portrait lens.

We have also updated the overall look and feel of the guide. Now it mirrors more closely the aesthetic we have throughout the rest of the website. You’ll also find that we have added a table of contents to whisk you to whichever lens you want to look at. This will save you having to scroll through the entire list if you know what you’re looking for. When I got into this industry years ago, one thing really confused me almost as much as how much certain older photographers tend to treat the younger generation of us: photo vests. I’m completely positive that you’ve all seen them: a photographer of a certain distinguishment (or trying to show off without having said distinguishment) wearing their vests that look a lot like safari vests. You know, almost as if they’re going to go out on an African safari at all times without being anywhere near something like a safari. Walking down the streets doing street photography? You’ll see a photo vest. In the studio? Photo vest! Hiking? Yup, A Photo vest!

Did Canon Miss the Memo That Says Mirrorless Lenses Are Meant to Be Smaller?

When Canon introduced their new Mirrorless cameras earlier on this year (The EOS R) one of the stand out features was that the lens mount was so huge. While other manufacturers like Sony have made all things Mirrorless smaller, the late comer to the Mirrorless party seems to have decided that bigger is better. In a recently released interview, Canon engineers seem to be having a sly dig at Sony by saying that lenses with smaller mounts are far less capable than those with larger mounts. The New Nikon P1000 Has a 125x Optical Zoom with a Laughable 1/2.3 inch Sensor for $999.95

Today, for some odd reason, the Nikon P1000 point and shoot camera is being announced. Odd, you ask? The fact that it is a point and shoot isn’t such a big issue at all; but the fact that it’s a superzoom camera being marketed as one with a 125x optical zoom is what’s insane. Kudos to Nikon for being able to do something like this; but then you read the fine print (or in this case, print that’s not even in the press release) and see the bait and switch–this Nikkor lens is having its potential wasted by being placed in front of a 1/2.3 inch sensor.
