Landscape Photographer Christian Hoiberg has a knack for capturing the stunning Aurora Borealis. All Images captured by Christian Hoiberg. Used with Creative Commons Permission.

The Northern Lights are perhaps one of the most breathtaking natural phenomenons anyone can see during their time on this planet. The bright colors can be seen fluttering in the skies over Alaska, northern parts of Canada, Greenland, Iceland, parts of Norway, Sweden and Finland. The residents there can see them from late August through the middle of April. The rest of us (unless we make a special trip to see them) have to rely on photographers like Christian Hoiberg who set out to capture the Aurora Borealis in all of its glory with their trusty cameras. After the break we share some of the images Christian Hoiberg has captured during his dances with the ‘Lady in Green’.

Over the last two years, Christian Hoiberg who lives in Trondheim, Norway has captured some of the stunning displays that the Northern Lights are famous for. He’s traveled all over Norway and Iceland with his trusty Nikon D810 and his Nikon 14-24mm f2.8 lens. The landscapes that he captured during his travels would be gorgeous enough by themselves, but when you add in the Aurora Borealis they become other worldly.

Christian named his project ‘The Lady in Green – Visions of the Arctic Night’ and it’s truly fitting. The way the green lights flow and move about the night sky are almost like a well choreographed dance. Even though I have never seen the Norther Lights personally, I can tell just how majestic they must be in person. I am incredibly grateful for photographers like Christian who set out to capture one of the most amazing, and most beautiful natural events known to man.

During his travels Christian has witnessed people laugh, cry, and shout with excitement as they see the lights for the first time, and no matter why type of display people see, they always leave with a huge smile on their face. It’s hard to imagine not being touched on a truly deep level after seeing such splendor in the night sky.

I imagine just how calm and peaceful the world must seem when you’re in the presence of such a display. Christian Hoiberg has certainly captured the magic in his images. Just looking at them brings a sense of peace and serenity to a person.

If you would like to see more images from his series entitles “The Lady in Green – A Visual of the Arctic Night’ head on over to his project page on Behance. Christian has lots of other great landscape work too which you can see on his main Behance profile page, and on his website too.

Have you ever seen Aurora Borealis in person? Did you get some great shots? How did it make you feel? Let us know in the comment section below.
