With the Rokinon SP 35mm f1.2, we’re sure that photographers will be able to shoot gorgeous photos.
That lead is honestly quite true, but the Rokinon SP 35mm f1.2 is limited to only Canon EF mount–and that means you’re going to need to use an adapter of some sort if you’re a Sony FE camera user or similar. We’re really confused why this lens is only available in Canon EF mount options. Sure, I don’t really mind using a Metabones Adapter for a Sony camera or a Canon EF-RF adapter, but considering how fantastic Rokinon’s 50mm f1.4 AF FE is for Sony, we’re scratching our heads on this one.
The photographers bound to use the new Rokinon SP 35mm f1.2 are those who shoot street photography, do lots of low light work for print (and to that end need to keep the ISO output down), and perhaps portrait photographers with patient subjects. Unless you zone focus, manual focusing isn’t really the best option. But this lens is more or less designed to be shot wide open. With 12 elements in 10 groups and ELD, Aspherical, and High Refractive elements built into it, there is a lot to look forward to. Plus, this lens has the new SP aluminum construction.
Here are some important bits from the press release. When the Rokinon SP 35mm f1.2 launches in January, you’ll be able to find it for $999. We also tested the Rokinon SP 14mm f2.8 and the Rokinon SP 85mm f1.2. If it’s like those other lenses, then this one isn’t weather sealed.

From the press release:
This premium quality prime lens yields extraordinary image quality for 50 megapixel photos and 8K (8192 x 4320) video productions. It features a moderate wide angle of view with Full Frame Canon DSLRs and works as a “normal” lens with APS-C sensor models. Delivering superb optical performance even wide open, the impressively bright f/1.2 aperture and nine blade diaphragm provide selective focus control, beautiful bokeh, and starburst effects. It is a perfect lens choice for capturing a broad range of subjects in vivid colors and exceptional high resolution images such as nightscapes, portraits, architecture and anything in difficult lighting conditions.
The optical design of the ROKINON SP 35mm F1.2 boasts 12 elements in 10 groups and incorporates Extra-Low Dispersion, Aspherical and High Refractive lens components to ensure impressive image quality. Constructed of high quality aluminum alloy with an ergonomically designed shape and focusing control/grip, it delivers a luxurious look, excellent durability and comfortable use
Additional features include an intuitive, damped and precise manual focus control, Canon’s exposure control modes are enabled, EXIF info is registered, and a non-rotating filter mount
