The Reflex Film SLR is Here with an Interchangeable Mount System!

The Reflex camera is the first new film SLR in years to come to life

It’s time to get very, very excited in the world of film photography. For the first time in many years, we’re getting a brand new film SLR camera. Reflex has teased their appearance for a while now and today on Kickstarter we’re getting a brand new camera with an M42 mount and a whole lot more. You see, the Reflex camera is a brand new 35mm film SLR camera that takes things a step beyond. It’s primarily an M42 mount camera but the mount is apparently interchangeable. It can use Canon FD, Nikon F?, Olympus OM or Pentax PK glass with the right plate. Then there’s the back, which comes off in the same way that medium format cameras have interchangeable backs so to speak. But then things are taken even a step further.

Reflex is announcing via Kickstarter that they’ve got a stretch goal that will incorporate the use of an app. This app will sync with your camera to get the EXIF data for each photo that you fired. Crazy, right? That’s a film photographer’s dream if anything! It will be connected via Bluetooth.

Beyond this, there is 1/4000 shutter speeds, manual and aperture priority, and the entire thing is made from a magnesium alloy body.

When I got into this industry years ago, one thing really confused me almost as much as how much certain older photographers tend to treat the younger generation of us: photo vests. I’m completely positive that you’ve all seen them: a photographer of a certain distinguishment (or trying to show off without having said distinguishment) wearing their vests that look a lot like safari vests. You know, almost as if they’re going to go out on an African safari at all times without being anywhere near something like a safari. Walking down the streets doing street photography? You’ll see a photo vest. In the studio? Photo vest! Hiking? Yup, A Photo vest!

The New Nikon P1000 Has a 125x Optical Zoom with a Laughable 1/2.3 inch Sensor for $999.95

Today, for some odd reason, the Nikon P1000 point and shoot camera is being announced. Odd, you ask? The fact that it is a point and shoot isn’t such a big issue at all; but the fact that it’s a superzoom camera being marketed as one with a 125x optical zoom is what’s insane. Kudos to Nikon for being able to do something like this; but then you read the fine print (or in this case, print that’s not even in the press release) and see the bait and switch–this Nikkor lens is having its potential wasted by being placed in front of a 1/2.3 inch sensor.

The Fujifilm XT3 (or as they call it, the Fujifilm X-T3) is the company’s latest evolution to their SLR style camera body designed to be a workhorse for many photographers. Despite a whole lot of great and absolutely fantastic things built into the camera, I personally am wondering what Fujifilm’s goal is here with the idea of the X Trans sensor and Film Simulations. One of the reasons why I was so smitten with the X Pro 1 was the fact that it delivered images that really looked like well shot and developed film. To some extent, the Fujifilm XT2 did too but only really with Acros. With the latest iteration, the Fujifilm X-T3, the company is delivering a new 26.2MP X Trans Sensor that delivers the most beautiful colors of any APS-C sensor that we’ve seen. But at the same time, the film simulations just don’t feel right.
