It was only a matter of time before sony realized that they needed a higher end camera than the Sony a7 series. And indeed, Sony Alpha Rumors is claiming it’s very true. According to the site, there will be a camera above the Sony a7 series; and it’s going to be much more DSLR-like. This camera will be called the Sony a9; and it’s going to feature dual XQD card slots and an unlimited RAW buffer shooting capability.
The admin of Sony Alpha Rumors tied this to the fact that the company released new XQD cards.
Crazy, huh? It sounds amazing until you think about how many images you’ll need to go through in Adobe Lightroom. But how likely is this to happen?
Sony users for years have been clamouring for a camera that can take on the 1Dx and D(insert number here) for a while. And to be honest, Sony has kind of been lacking in that realm and instead focusing on the high end enthusiast–though some pros are surely ditching their DSLRs for what Sony offers. While the strategy has been working for Sony, it’s evident that there are users that want and are requires more out of their gear.
The first bit of evidence we see here is with the G Master (tee hee) series of lenses. These are targeted at the very top tier of photographers and they’ve got the features to boot such as more extensive weather resistance and in the case of the 85mm you’ve got 11 aperture blades.
Now, the a7 series are pretty powerful and sturdy as they are, but they’re not Canon and Nikon top tier sturdy. So hopefully, we may see this camera(s) come later this year at Photokina.
