Get ready for Sony to go after the imaging world a ton more aggressively, or at least that’s what Sony Alpha Rumors is finding. They gather from both reports on Sony.Net and Reuters that the company will be making more of an effort to focus on the imaging division as well as the gaming and mobile businesses. Reuters is reporting that the company will also cut 5,000 jobs and split off the PC and TV businesses. That’s all quite sad, as their televisions are really quite beautiful when properly calibrated and they put a ton of work into trying to produce new models in the later part of last year.
Worldwide, Sony is already in the #3 position behind Canon and Nikon and have always found that they cater very well to the consumers/prosumers. But could this finally mean that they’re going to go after the pros more seriously? For example, Sony doesn’t have a 1D X or D4 style camera at all. But they surely have the sensors to perform with the big boys and they also have the autofocusing technology.
Maybe Photokina 2014 will bring us some awesome new stuff that makes all our jaws drop.
