The Phoblographer’s Awesome Guide to Mother’s Day Gifts

Mother’s Day is coming up, and your mom probably loves cameras and photography. There are plenty of gifts that you can get her to suit particular personality and tastes. Here’s a rundown of gifts that she’ll be all starry-eyed for when she unwraps them. Remember that they can all be purchased by clicking the appropriate links to Amazon or B&H.

Soccer Mom

Soccer moms often want to carry one camera and lens because they need room in the car for other things: like the kids and coolers with drinks. Jill-E Designs make some very slim bags that are affordable in both “Bodacious Black” and “Potion Purple.” Mom will be able to fit a DSLR, lens and something else in there. It could be a water bottle, small towel, band-aids, snacks, etc.

If you can afford it: a Canon 60D or Nikon D7000 will fit very well into a bag like this.

Fun Mom

Does your mom like to have lots of fun? She’ll appreciate recording those fun times with a Fujifilm Instax Mini 7S. We reviewed the camera and thought that it was really fun to use. With a collapsible lens, easy loading, wrist strap, and easy controls, mom will really appreciate the instant-film fun and nostalgia that will be brought back—reminding her of the days where her parents photographed her with instant film.

Don’t forget the film! You can purchase them together for an even better price.

Busy/Workaholic Mom

For the mom that is always busy, on the go, and perhaps an entrepreneur, you should consider purchasing an iPad 2 for her. The iPad will help her to manage her email, music, documents, expenses, look things up, etc. This will be able to slip easily into her bag when she’s in the car, riding in an airplane or on the subway.

Momarazzis typically don’t want big DSLRs and instead want something simple. The Olympus EPL-2 and to lens kit will be appreciated by most moms that fall into this category. We reviewed the Olympus EPL-2 and loved the simplicity, image quality, autofocus, and versatility that the compact camera offers.

To boot, she’d love an Eye-Fi card that will let her shoot and upload her photos wirelessly to the computer so that she can go back out and shoot photos of the kids.

Fashionista Mom

The Red with Croc Trim bag from Jill-E Designs will be one that your mom will love. But what do you get to match with it?

Diana cameras and Lomography cameras are all the rage right now so we’re giving you two different options: the LC-A+ with an Instant Film back or a Diana with 75mm lens + flash with the instant film back.

Trust us: they’re in this season.

Photographer Mom

According to our Facebook, there are some moms that really want a new camera ome good suggestions are:

DSLRs: Canon T3i, Nikon D5100 or Sony A55

Point and Shoots: The Olympus XZ-1, hands down there is no better choice.

Lenses: We’ve got you covered in our budget lens guide for almost every lens mount.
