Upgrading Your Canon Camera Body

Upgrading Your Canon Camera Body

Hopefully by this point you’ve read part I of this series about upgrading your lenses first as well as some recommendations for which lenses to purchase for whichever type of photography you enjoy the most. If you haven’t read it yet or if you missed it, make sure to read through that one before reading on. You can check Part I out here.

Okay, now that we have that point of business out of the way, we can jump into Part II of the Canon Photographers Guide To Upgrading Your Equipment; the camera body. Now that you have some good glass in front of your camera (right?!), it’s time to look at upgrading the brain of the whole system. A new camera can come with much more excitement than a new lens. Canon Lens Upgrade Path

This is the first post in a series of posts that will tell all you Canon shooters out there a general upgrade path for your equipment.

You’ve probably heard the term that the best camera (or lens) is the one you have on you. You’ve also probably heard from several people who you don’t need super high-end equipment to create stunning images. While these statements can be true, better gear can make your photography life a whole lot easier. Should You Upgrade?: Canon 50mm f/1.8 II to Sigma 50mm f/1.4 EX DG HSM

Canon 5D with Sigma 50mm f/1.4 EX DG HSM shot at f/5.6

Regardless of what you shoot or what brand of equipment you use, almost everyone owns or has owned a 50mm prime lens. The 50mm focal length is very close to what our eyes actually see so it feels natural to use this lens. But I think the number one reason most people own a 50mm is they are an amazing value. Both Nikon and Canon make wonderful 50mm f/1.8 lenses for less than $125. It’s crazy not to have a 50mm at that price! My 50mm basically lives on my 5D, I hardly ever take it off. If you’re like me and you’re constantly using your 50mm lens, you’ve probably thought about upgrading your cheap 50mm to something faster, more solidly built and something that can produce nicer bokeh. Enter the Sigma 50mm f/1.4 EX DG HSM.
