With the Flip about to be put out of its misery, Samsung announced the new W200 pocket camcorder that not only sports an F/2.2 lens, but also features waterproofing. The new camcorder also has a back-illuminated 5MP CMOS sensor (BSI), which when combined with the F/2.2 lens should be able to do a great job with the diminished light underwater for up to 3 meters. That F/2.2 lens also has an anti-fog coating to prevent cloudy images. The only drag I see is the 2.3″ 230K LCD screen, which isn’t that great since we’re so used to higher resolution screens these days. Beyond this, it has art filters:
– Vignetting allows users to fade the edges of shots
- The Fish-Eye setting creates an arty, distorted feel for unique and interesting footage.
We recently did a hands-on with the Samsung NX100 and we just got news that OK GO has filmed a viral music video with the camera. Samsung is releasing a teaser trailer today. According to the press release, “A series of behind-the-scenes episodes has also been produced using the Samsung NX100, following OK Go as they embark on this creative project. The clips show the creative brilliance of OK Go meeting the technical ingenuity of the i-Function Lens, as they create a piece of video art that will be viewed, downloaded, sent on and talked about across the world. In addition, the episodes provide a fun way to learn about how the NX100 itself works. The series also challenges viewers to explore their own creativity.”
Beyond the videos though, we got to put an SD card in a pre-production NX100 the other night to take some stills. Check them out after the jump. Admittedly, we found the metering to be a bit off but otherwise thought this to be a very stellar piece of gear. You can currently pre-order the camera at B&H in Black or Brown.
The Samsung NX100 is the latest mirrorless camera in the line and it doesn’t seem to disappoint in some areas. For every photographer that has wanted a Leica-like body, this is perhaps the camera that you’d want to get your hands on. That said, it is also the largest mirrorless camera with interchangeable lenses that I’ve ever held (the exception being Leica M bodies.) However, one can easily see themselves slinging it across their shoulder or body as well as being pleased with what it can do.
Samsung just announced the HMX-T10, a new HD-capable camcorder. It’s small, smooth, stylish, and sports a slightly slanted lens that Samsung claims lets users “enjoy their recording experience without any discomfort to their arm or wrist.” It can record 1920 x 1080 video at 60 interpolated frames per second and features a 10X optical zoom lens, an SD/SDHC card slot, and a 2.7-inch touchscreen. Samsung has just announced a new budget compact camera that could indicate the company’s desire to carve out an entirely new niche in the market. A few years ago, the Flip Video camcorder made waves by offering users a cheap, convenient way to take videos. Its low price, simple controls, and convenient pop-out USB connector appealed to casual users and it’s since become one of the most popular consumer camcorders on the market. Today, the Flip camcorder is emulated by several companies, including Samsung. However, the HMX-E10 is last week’s news. This pseudo-Flip-like camera is all-new.
Samsung just announced two new pocket recording devices: offering a pair of portable, pocketable packages for popping photos or videos. The ST80 is a smooth, curvy compact digital camera with built-in Wi-Fi, while the E10 is a smooth, curvy compact camcorder modeled after the current generation of Flip Mino.
