Old and New: These Are My 7 Favorite Camera Designs

There have been some innovative camera designs throughout the years: here are my favorites.

I’m inclined to say that most cameras look very similar. That’s not a criticism; there’s only so much you can do when putting the ergonomics together. But, although the look of the camera isn’t the most important factor, it is appreciated when manufacturers go a step further than the traditional design. Our community often gets lost in spec sheets, obsessing over megapixels and autofocus points — I want to us to step away from that for a moment. Let’s instead focus purely on design, and see which cameras, old and new, have been the most eye-catching over the years.

Dear Fujifilm: Your Next Camera Will Need Much Better Battery Life

While Fujifilm does a whole lot right, they need to improve on the battery life of their cameras.

The battery life on a Fujifilm camera is pretty bad, and it’s only now that I’ve realized it. Admittedly, it has been a while since I’ve picked up my Fujifilm cameras. The reason for this is because I’ve been exploring who I am as a creative. The other reason is that I’ve needed to test all this additional gear that’s come out. So when pairing the company’s 16-80mm f4 R WR OIS with my X-H1 and X-T2, I was reminded of a problem. The battery life on Fujifilm cameras is pretty awful. It was great for a long time, and then the firmware and tech demanded more juice. Unless you’ve got a vertical grip on your X series camera, I don’t think the battery life is sufficient at all. In one night, I went through two batteries; that’s unacceptable.

The Fujifilm X-T3 Could Be Built In China; But Do We Care?

The Fujifilm rumor mill burst into life this morning with the discovery of the Chinese registration of the Fujifilm X-T3.

It shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone that the Fujifilm X-T3 is coming soon, we have been hearing about it for months, even if unofficially. The discovery today by Nokishita of the registration of an X-T3 in China only confirms what we have all been expecting from Fujifilm. However, it also introduced a new ripple into this picture of the upcoming Fujifilm flagship camera. Apparently, the X-T3 itself will, in fact, be manufactured in China; a first for a Fujifilm flagship camera, these have previously all been built in Japan.

Opinion: What I Would Like to See in the Fujifilm X-T3

Fujifilm’s X-H1 may be the new flagship, but a new Fujifilm X-T3 is what has everyone excited right now

It is being reported that Fujifilm plans to launch their upcoming X-T3 in the coming year, and the new update will feature Fujifilm’s new 26MP X-Trans IV sensor. It is a modest improvement over the 24MP X-Trans III sensor, but the sensor hasn’t ever been Fujifilm’s weakness. Along with the reports of a new sensor, the Fujifilm X-T3 is said to have a true touchscreen along with better battery performance. If this is true, it would be a welcome sign that Fujifilm will be fixing their battery problem. Continue reading…

Following Botched Rollout, Fujifilm Postpones X-T2, X-H1 and X-Pro2 Updates

Fujifilm ran into some issues with the implementation of the X-T2 Firmware and they have rolled it back

One of the downsides to constant firmware updates is the reality that sometimes they cause more problems than they solve, which is exactly what the problem was with Fujifilm’s latest [amazon_textlink asin=’B01I3LNMAM’ text=’X-T2′ template=’ProductLink’ store=’thephobl-20′ marketplace=’US’ link_id=’4067b420-6441-11e8-b525-b786673fddf5′] firmware this month. It was so bad that Fujifilm actually rolled back the firmware, a smart move to minimize those affected, but that in turn ended up with the postponement of the X-H1 and [amazon_textlink asin=’B01A8DUR74′ text=’X-Pro2′ template=’ProductLink’ store=’thephobl-20′ marketplace=’US’ link_id=’490d4c35-6441-11e8-af03-01b307349b3c’] firmware updates that were supposed to be shortly following the X-T2 update at the end of this month. Why the Rumored Fujifilm X-T100 Is Sorely Needed

It is being said that the long-rumored Fujifilm X-T100 could be announced as soon as next week

Fujifilm has a long history of producing great cameras within their X-Series, but one segment of the market that has always been a bit of a dud for Fujifilm has been their budget-oriented cameras. The X-A series has always been very basic and cheap in comparison to the mid-level X-Series cameras like the X-T10 and [amazon_textlink asin=’B01NCVNDPO’ text=’X-T20′ template=’ProductLink’ store=’thephobl-20′ marketplace=’US’ link_id=’6f7645fb-57b1-11e8-b6ec-f7b963a3e069′]. Here Is What Fujifilm Needs to Do with X-Trans IV; My Wish List

It’s about time for an X-Trans upgrade in the Fujifilm X-Series

As was widely publicized when Fujifilm launched their new X-H 1 a while back, their current X-Trans sensor technology dates back to the launch of the X-pro 2. It is a fine sensor, and the X-Processor Pro which accompanies it is solid as well. But in today’s world tech moves fast and three years is a long time. So we can probably expect the next generation of X-Trans to be coming soon. As such, I wanted to take a minute to talk about some of the things on my X-Trans IV wish list.

Review: Fujifilm X-H1 (The Perfect Fuji with a Big Problem)

in body image stabilization

The Fujifilm X-H1 is the company’s most curious camera yet.

When the rumors of the Fujifilm X-H1 were circulating, it seemed as if all were good, at least on paper. The Fujifilm X-H1 is being billed as the flagship X series camera and addresses a number of concerns photographers and users have had for a while. It has 4K video at a number of frame rates and with high-quality options including F log and 200MB/second. Then there have been enhancements to the autofocus, weather sealing enhancements, and some ergonomics changes to make the camera more like a DSLR without a mirror and pentaprism. At the heart, it’s using the same 24MP APS-C sensor many of Fuji’s other cameras use. And in truth, the Fujifilm X-H1 is a really excellent camera. But at the same time, this is hands down the camera with the worst ergonomics I’ve ever felt from Fujifilm.

Fujifilm Firmware Updates Incoming, Including Major Update to X-Pro2

Some of the other big news announced by Fujifilm today beyond the new X-E3 and the lenses was the announcement of some major firmware updates coming down the pipe for the X-Series cameras as well as the GFX50S.

Among those, probably the camera getting the biggest boost to its performance and capabilities is the X-Pro2. According to Fujifilm’s announcement, the X-Pro2 will be getting 4K video as well as the improved AF algorithm included in the X-E3. This is huge for the X-Pro2, which until the time this firmware is released was the only X-Trans III based camera without 4K video capabilities despite being the most expensive camera in the system.

Wait What?! Reports Indicate Fujifilm X-E3 May Not Have D-Pad

If you have ever used a Fujifilm camera over the last several years, you will know how integral the d-pad has been to the control layout of the camera. Not only was this how you would navigate the menus, but this was also a whole array of function buttons that you could set in the menu. Which makes the revelation in some recent reports that the upcoming Fujifilm X-E3 will not have a d-pad at all.

One aspect of the X-E3 that has been reported for some time now is that it will have the AF joystick that the [amazon_textlink asin=’B01I3LNMAM’ text=’X-T2′ template=’ProductLink’ store=’thephobl-20′ marketplace=’US’ link_id=’d561c88b-8c10-11e7-ae49-c555c0be1e66′] and X-Pro2 enjoy, and more recent reports indicate that it is expected to have a touch screen as well, something the [amazon_textlink asin=’B01A8DUR74′ text=’X-Pro2′ template=’ProductLink’ store=’thephobl-20′ marketplace=’US’ link_id=’5de460e3-8c11-11e7-92d4-2d84f4fd7e8b’] lacks.
