Yes, the rumors were true. Pentax announced the K-01 mirrorless camera. Unlike the Q, this one’s got an APS-C sized sensor just as large as their very good K-5. Other important features are 1080 HD video (H.264: 30p, 25p or 24p, ISO output up to 12800, and a burst shooting rate at 6 fps at the fastest. Plus, it features a 3.0-inch 921k-dot LCD and sensor-shift image stabilization. Lastly, it features an SD card slot. The Pentax K-01 will be sold body-only for $749.95 and will also be available with the new 40mm pancake for $899.95. By itself, the 40mm F2.8 XS will be $249.95.
Look for it all in March.
The Pentax K-5, A little fist with a big punch. At least that’s what I’m feeling so far when using it. I’ve had the unit for a little while now and it is already starting to grow on me. Chris did a hands-on with the unit and provided samples a little while back. So let’s just go right into it.
Go to DXoMark, and try this out yourself: you’ll see that the Pentax K-5has beat out the Canon 5D Mark II
and the Nikon D700
DSLR cameras with full frame sensors. Mind you, the K-5 has a smaller APS-C sized sensor. After that, pit the K-5 against the Nikon D300s
and the Canon 7D
and you’ll start to become even more amazed. Not long ago, Pentax disappointed many of their customers with the K-7. Then the K-x
came out and it began to wow them. After this, the company released the 645D along with the Pentax K-r
and the K-5. With the results of what the new sensor is capable of, it seems that the company is poised to fight back. The cameras now rank very high up on DXo’s highest score listings. More after the jump.
After seeing the Pentax 645D in action and getting samples from the the K-5 and 645D, I’ve come to the conclusion that the Pentax K-5is essentially a mini-645D with some different features.
Pentax is showing off production samples of the 645D and K-5. I was able to get a brief hands on with the products and samples images. Hands-on review will be coming but here are the samples.
