Is the Canon EF-M Series of Cameras Doomed?

With the new announcement of the Canon EOS R7 and EOS R10, we’re curious about whether or not the Canon EF-M series is doomed. I mean, why bother to continue it? The autofocus performance is subpar compared to that of the RF series of cameras. Nothing in this lineup is weather resistant either. And, for the most part, lenses for it haven’t been released or developed in a while. So is it really gone?

EOS M cameras from Canon will fight to live another day.

Canon’s EOS M cameras are, let’s say, interesting. There have been a couple of success stories from this line of cameras, but for the most part, the cameras have been forgettable. We will say that interest in the cameras is decent in Japan. (This is a country where small cameras are cherished.) In other parts of the world, the Canon EOS M line has faltered. However, this isn’t stopping Canon from forging ahead with them. If the noise from some insiders is true, there will be new EOS M cameras. On top of that, Canon is apparently ready to re-invent the line. Let’s talk about this after the break.

Reports Cite a Full Frame Canon EOS M Camera at Photokina

Canon hasn’t really made a big splash when it comes to the mirrorless camera world; but if Canon Rumors is to be believed then we’ve got something to really look forward to. According to their report, there’s a chance that Photokina 2016 may give us an EOS M camera with a full frame 35mm 24MP. The same report also states that it could take Canon EF lenses, but that doesn’t really make sense.

This camera is supposed to be a prosumer type of camera and may have lots of appeal to those with lots of Canon lenses already in their kit–which are a lot of people!

If Canon does this just right, they could end up dominating the market almost immediately overnight.

Reports of a Canon Full Frame EOS M Mirrorless Camera Arise

Chris Gampat The Phoblographer Canon EOS M First Impressions (2 of 18)ISO 200

Mirrorless cameras are completely taking over the photography world and Canon might finally have a serious contender to throw into the ring. Canon Rumors has picked up on news the Japanese camera company will soon announce the development of a new mirrorless system camera.

However, there’s a strong possibility this new camera won’t simply be an EOS M3 following in the footsteps of the two previous models. Rather sources say it will be a new EOS M that we will really like, and that’s what we were all waiting for.So far there have been two different reports from sources with one saying it will feature a full-frame sensor on board, while the other has mentioned an EOS M rangefinder.

The big take away from this is it seems very certain that Canon is working on a new mirrorless camera. All the while 2015 has been rumored to be a very busy year for Canon with a purported 50MP professional full frame camera named the EOS 3D, which could come with a second variant that does away with the low-pass filter.
