One of the things that a lot of people don’t understand about portraits is this: when you’re photographing a person they are the absolute bigger priority in the image. Even in environmental portraiture, their environment is important but the primary object is still the person that you’re photographing. For that reason, a whole lot of portrait photographers will shoot in aperture priority because all that they care about is the depth of field in the scene. But honestly, there’s a whole lot more to it than just that. Instead, you should be exposing your scene based on your subject’s skin tones as a priority. Everything else should be secondary. Luckily, modern cameras are so good that you can do just that.
Fathers Day, the one day each year where celebrate the men that brought us into this world. Men love their gear and their gadgets, and as you would expect, this means there are some killer deals going on right now as companies compete to try and win some of the many Fathers Day dollars that will be spent.
You know the feeling if you’re a photographer with some gear on you: you go about walking around for a while but then after some time you need a break. You have to refuel but most importantly, your feet hurt. That can sometimes be the biggest issue when it comes to photowalking. Everyone will tell you to wear comfortable shoes; but no one really goes into that any further. For me personally, sometimes my nicer shoes tend to be comfortable enough for most excursions I go on. However, that all depends on what gear I have with me.
Capture One Pro isn’t as preset friendly as Lightroom is simply because of the fact that when photographers go to it, they really try to create and massage their own ideals of color into the photos. Afterall, that’s part of what it was designed for. But with the Capture One Film Styles extended, you get a whole lot of that if you’re a film shooter. We previously reviewed the Capture One Film Styles preset pack, and honestly didn’t feel like it totally held up against real film. Granted, the images still looked good–though if you’re a film fanatic the way that I am, you’ll want something close.
What’s the best camera for vacation and travel photography in a DSLR form factor? To be honest, no one is making a bad camera these days. There are a number of you out there that simply want an interchangeable lens camera like a DSLR for the professional look and feel. And to be honest, there are a lot of great DSLRs out there. Though if you’re traveling, some are better than others.
If you were to look back at some of the quintessential lens options for the Sony Alpha lineup of lenses, then you’re sure to figure that the company would have updated their 35mm f1.4 by now; but they haven’t. Sony has a fantastic 50mm f1.4 lens for their Alpha lineup of cameras and considering that the A99 II is such a blow-me-away great camera, it would make a whole lot of sense that they updated their 35mm for the wedding and photojournalism crowd.
There are a ton of lens and camera deals flying around right now. Nikon, Fujifilm, Rokinon, all have some great deals going on, but featured in our post today we are taking a look at some great savings on Sony lenses that can currently be had:
I’m going to share with you a little bit of insight that the cinema industry has known for years but that the photo industry still sort of rejects in favor of innovation: and that’s that Canon has been getting skin tones perfectly, absolutely right for years and that they still do. I’m aware that this is going to incite a flame war amongst one base vs another but before you go any further you know should know something else. This is all my own opinion.
Shooting photos from planes can honestly be tough to do some times, but believe it or not what really, truly matters in the end is the final result. If you’re one of those folks sitting at a window seat, you should really take advantage of all the intoxicating views that are granted to you to the best of your ability. Of course, you’ll generally need to be some place away from the wings for starters and then you can concentrate on whatever is in front of of you so that you can share that gorgeous vista later on with all your friends on social media.
