The coolest thing to happen to light meters in a long time has announced that it’s in the final stage of production. At Photokina 2016, we got to see the Lumu Power light meter adapter for the iPhone. They’ve been in production since their initial announcement and their iOS app is currently being featured in the app store.
To recap, Lumu is a company that make light meters for iOS devices. Their original was mostly just an ambient light meter. But the Lumu Power has been in production for nearly two years now, and delivers more features than just ambient light readings. It can do flash metering as well as color temperature readings. Color temperature is VERY important if you’re shooting film due to knowing and understanding how Daylight or Tungsten white balance works with the scene that you’re in.
It’s going to be fantastic for analog photographers but also just great for photographers that really want to learn more about how to work with a flash, color temperatures, ambient light exposures, etc. You may ask: why not just use a camera? Believe it or not, some of the best things about photography are taught by not using a camera and just pre-visualizing a scene. It teaches you to hone your creative vision a lot better.
Stay tuned, we’re in the process of receiving a review unit within a few weeks hopefully.
