Today, Sony is introducing their fourth 50mm lens to their E mount: the Sony 50mm f2.8 Macro lens designed for full frame E mount cameras (otherwise called FE mount online.) The new lens, which sill cost $500 is being billed at the general shooter. It offers a 1:1 macro capability and focuses as closely as around 6.3 inches. The Sony 50mm f2.8 Macro lens also offers focus switches on the side including a limiter and hold button.
With a weight of 8.3 oz, Sony is targeting the lens at both portrait shooters and macro photographers.
According to the press release:
“The new FE 50mm F2.8 Macro lens features an ED (Extra-low Dispersion) glass to effectively compensate for axial chromatic aberration at close focus, allowing it to create consistently sharp and high quality images. The optical and mechanical construction of the lens has less glare and ghosting, even without a lens hood. The lens is also dust and moisture resistant.”
Later on in the release though, they state that it is not guaranteed to be 100% dust and moisture proof.
